About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.

ABOUT ME

I'm an American expat living in Bern, Switzerland with my boyfriend, Robert. We moved from the beautiful state of Colorado. I'm a post-doctoral scientist at the University of Fribourg, and Robert is a MSc student at the University of Bern. We are very excited for our time in Europe and look forward to making new adventures and friends!

I like reading, traveling, adventures, active lifestyle (hiking, climbing, snowboarding), cooking with Robert and or friends, baking, movies, music, spending time with friends and family, etc.

Both of us are nice people with insatiable appetites for learning and adventure. We are not big partiers but love drinks and good food in the company of good friends. We do not smoke. We love discussing current events, especially science.

Between us we speak English, moderate Spanish (me), and learning French (me) and German (Robert). :)

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy can basically be summed up in as an optimistic existentialism. I think that all that we can be sure is of the life we have now. Rather than blame our pasts or personal trials as excuses for behavior, I am inspired by people who rise above it. Whether the divine is real or not is no matter to me; it is real because we make it so, and we are important to ourselves because we charge ourselves to be meaningful. I try to live my life simply, doing random acts of kindness mixed with more effortful endeavors to better the world. Overall, I just feel so lucky to have the opportunities I've had, and not take them for granted by giving back in any way I can (including lending a couch!)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Our kitchen floor is open for one person only. We live in a tiny flat for now. We are also just getting into surfing.. forgive my newbiness (ironically I've had a profile for years!).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Nothing yet! But lots of travel at friends' places, airbnb, hostels, etc. We are really low-maintenance.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - indie rock, classic rock, alt rock, and some pop/hip hop
Books - all the classics, especially Siddhartha, The Great Gatsby, Catch-22, Hamlet, etc. Unfortunately these days I just read scientific articles. :)
Movies - those awesome comedies as well as classic great movies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- my youngest brother's smile.
- Prague at dusk, a crescent moon rising over the castle.
- being in the Sistine Chapel at 14 and 22, and knowing how I had changed in 8 years.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you want a lot of useless knowledge that only a handful of people in the world care about, I will definitely let you know about memory for experiences from moment to moment.
