About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Being open to life and passing this on to our children. Setting a good example for others is good.

ABOUT ME

For verification see "Pat and Walker Croft" site.
I am married and have two children. We home schooled them and got them through college. May 2011 Travis sailed a 30ft boat to Europe. Last year he went to northern SA and around part of the Caribbean. Dallas taught Korean and then Thai children English for two years. Now she is teaching Math to Chinese HS graduates who plan to go to an Australian university. I have been around construction much of my life having designed and built houses, bought, fixed and sold houses, done remodeling and you name it. It has left us with several properties and rentals which has made us "land poor". I can fix most anything, play a bit of guitar, like to read, and am fascinated by modern technnology. I like living without making too large an impact on the environment We as a family are all non smokers.

PHILOSOPHY

The good that you do slowly builds good karma. The bad that you do destroys good karma very quickly giving you bad karma. Good things happen to those with lots of good karma. Bad things happen to those with an abundance of bad karma. It takes a long time to undo the effects of a little bit of bad karma.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Everyone in our family is now a CS. The kids first, next wife, then me. August 2010 my son went camping with CS in Colorado to watch a meteor shower. He learned of CS from an old friend who retired from Continental Airlines and flies all over the world couch surfing. Our first surfer was particularly interesting. He was buying a boat in Galveston to sail to Europe. He intended to stay a couple of days until he bought his boat but wound up staying three months. We had tools and helped him get the boat ready to make such a sail. Travis sailed to Key West, Florida with him and continued on to the Netherlands. We have hosted a number of travelers in Kerrville as we seem to be on a major East-West route across the countryWe have CS while traveling and had nothing but wonderful experiences.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

When I was in college before the internet was like it is today, I signed up to be put in a booklet with several thousand other people in the USA. It had our names, addresses and phone numbers and the promise of a place to stay if we/they were in town--ie. couch surfing without benefit of a CS site. It did not last too long probably because of the difficulty of up-dating and the information going stale. Just a bit of history.

Interests

Electric cars. Energy efficient cars. Energy efficiency in general. Rockets. Space travel. Detective novels. Reading in general. Guitar. Yoga. Fixing stuff. Barry Fell. Family. Global warming has recently become important.
Making a list is hard because interests tend to change with the weather.

Music, Movies, and Books

Saw "King Kong" (origional) as a child at RKO Keith's movie theater and I was hooked on "science" thrillers for life I guess. Pat is more into drama and I like watching those films with her. Dallas is into vampire flicks which I also enjoy. I have a great ability to engage my "suspension of disbelief". Lately been watching a lot of BBC detective dvd's from the library. WATCH the dvd "Chasing Ice" I like singer-songwriter music, blues, stuff from when I was in college and most of what my children are listening to. I have been reading detective authors lately other varied stuff.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went with a group of friends to Virginia Beach, VA on a clear summer day and witnessed a total eclipse of the sun.
