About Me

I'm originally from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, however I have spent most of the last 4 or 5 years travelling or living abroad in places like Canada, South America, South East Asia, Mexico and Hawaii. During this time I developed a strong interest in our food systems and how we can improve them through small scale biointensive farming techniques. I am now in the process of starting a backyard based urban farming project in Brisbane that I hope will encourage people to eat more locally, more healthily and more mindfully. I follow a very minimalist and low impact lifestyle as much as I can in the city, cooking almost every meal from scratch using base ingredients and minimising consumption within reason. I'm not vegan, but I barely touch meat, eggs or dairy unless they are likely to be thrown out. I like real food, and I love to grow it, cook with it and eat it!

Other than being quite passionate about preserving what is left of our environment I am an outdoor lover, adventurer, traveller, seeker, civil engineer, cyclist, rock climber, surfer and a lover of any thing different or challenging.

I recently rode a bike 3000 kms dressed as a giant carrot from Brisbane to Hobart to raise money for my urban farming project, you can read about it on my blog site here: www.freewheelingfarmer.com

PHILOSOPHY

This is a quote I think should appeal to all true couch surfers - "We cannot discover new oceans unless we have the courage to lose sight of the shore."

I also live by the philosophy that you should work to live, not live to work. I try to keep a good balance in my life. There are more important things than paying mortgages and catching the train to work every day of your life.
