ABOUT ME

update 9/30: The following description applies from 2006 to 2012

I travel as much as I can manage. I seek and maintain friendships with good hearted, open and fair minded people. I spend 6 months a year on the road refereeing soccer tournaments across the country. When I have downtime between tournaments, I like to get out for day hikes or camping. I enjoy all kinds of games, board games, bar games, puzzles, video games etc.
I am traveling around the country, doing something I love to pay my way. Exploring and learning. Building the life I want. Creating the means of a life in which I am AWAKE every day. Contents of a given week: a lot of soccer games, some working out, some hiking, some bouldering, some yoga, some reading, some blogging, some gaming, and some good beer. I love storytelling, and hearing stories from others, and living new stories to tell. Have been taking guitar lessons for almost a year now (3/11) and am always happy to play some music with people.

The more profiles I read on CS, the less interesting I feel by comparison. Though I have been criss-crossing the US for years now, I haven't traveled out of the country.

Currently (9/30/2013): I am taking classes at CNM and working. A lot less traveling, and I have limited ability to host till December 2013.

PHILOSOPHY

Every person you meet may have an invaluable piece of wisdom / experience that can speak to your life.
My basic social principle is that if you treat people with kindness and respect, you will be able to surround yourself with good people.
You only get as much out of life as you put into it.
The only way to get out of my head, is to get into my life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Joined the project a year ago plus, but have not yet been active. Just in the last week (early feb 09) have I really been looking more at the site, reading up on hosting, being a good guest, and how to write a request etc. I would like to say that Albuquerque is a crossroads, and if you are driving cross country and looking for a place to crash for a night that is less impersonal than a hotel, feel free to contact me.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Lots with friends around the country, not yet with contacts through the site.
When surfing with a friend, I try to make whatever contributions I can to the household. Grocery shopping, meal preparation, household chores, putting beer in the fridge (if applicable).

Interests

Hiking, camping, climbing, bouldering, working out, chess, Settlers of Catan, poker, bar games (games of all sort really), soccer, all sorts or academics, especially chances to converse with people who have different experiences than I, or different areas of expertise. I enjoy getting out in the day for hiking outdoors or sporting activities. I can enjoy chilling in the evening, a book, a game. I can enjoy a good bar or pub, but not really into clubs or casinos. Storytelling. Music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have found more place of awesome natural beauty than I can tell you about, some on the beaten path, some far from it. Ummm. . . I've driven 26 hrs solo to get from one city to another, some people are amazed by that.
I have managed to find a lot of autonomy and freedom in my life, and still have enough income to take care of myself.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am always glad to share my experiences and understanding, though the older I get, the more I realize that I don't know.
