About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Cave to my wanderlust. Meet awesome people. Enjoy life.

ABOUT ME

I want to see and try all this wondrous world has to offer. And to appreciate this moment.

PHILOSOPHY

Cliche as it may be, I live by the simple and classic one liner - Treat others as you want to be treated. It crosses generations and cultures.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've surfed and hosted throughout the years, it's good to be able to experience both sides of couchsurfing, I like to think it has made me a better surfer.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I began by mingling with the CS communities in Illinois and found CSers are my kind of people. With their exciting CSing stories as inspiration, I set off for a few month solo journey across the US CSing and hosteling. Was fantastic and met lots of awesome people doing awesome things.

The last two years I have been serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in a Basotho village. Unfortunately the US Peace Corps official policy is no couchsurfing (security...and government bureaucracy) so I have mostly been hosting via word of mouth about my humble little hut which surprisingly attracted quite a few nomads. I enjoy both sides of the couchsurfing experience, especially as I was able to show many foreigners why I have come to love the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho so much.

Now that my service is near completion, I hope to get on the road again, cycling and backpacking Africa...and where ever else the road takes me.

Interests

I love traveling, writing, experiencing about new cultures, cooking and gardening. I can't live without music. I like anything outdoors - camping, cycling, hiking, bicycling, jogging, walking, swimming, kayaking. I play with yoga and meditation to work on balance.

Music, Movies, and Books

Any kind of music, especially live.
What is the What - Dave Eggers; Full Tilt - Dervla Murphy; Shantaram - David Gregory Roberts; 40 Chances - Howard Buffet; The Rosie Project - Graeme Simsion; Long Walk to Freedom - Nelson Mandela; Let Me Stand Alone - Rachel Corrie; The ugly American - Lederer; The Unheard - Josh Swiller; And the Mountains Echoed - Khaled Hosseini

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Cycled through the Mountain Kingdom; Ran to the border of South Africa; Climbed the highest mountain in my area and butchered and fried a chicken!

Teach, Learn, Share

I dabble in many things, so I have a basic knowledge of lots of fun things. I taught yoga, dance and swimming and "life skills" (mostly HIV education) in Lesotho. Lesotho taught me, and I can now teach you how to cook some mean vegetarian dishes, how to use a pee-bucket and how to shove 30 people in a 15-seater mini bus taxi.

I'm a continuous learner and hope to learn more about anything and everything - especially related to culture, geography, language, writing and smart traveling.
