About Me

I like to travel, wander the areas of cities that tourists don't go. I like to see sights not in guidebooks, eat local food. I try my best not to be a tourist when I travel.

I love spending time outside, exploring and having adventures.

Life is short and unpredictable, so I try and experience as much as I can, while I can :-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Why do I couchsurf? Because it makes me feel more like a traveller and less like a tourist. Because I remember people more that the locations. Whenever I couchsurf somewhere, even if it is only for one night, I really feel like I was there, instead of passing through. I have made so many excellent friends and connected with so many amazing people.

I am on couchsurfing because I like meeting new people and seeing places through their eyes.

Interests

Slacklining. This is less of an interest and more of an all consuming passion. This could be described as a sport, but I wouldn’t use that term. It is essentially balancing on a flat piece of rope, which is tied between two trees. Why do I love it so much? Because it requires all your concentration, you must become present in the moment to be successful on the line. It is a form of active meditation.
This feeling is multiplied exponentially when you do it 50m above the ground. When you do it high above the ground, it is called highlining.
3 other close friends of mine and I started a small company to give highlining shows, to teach the public that we are not daredevils with a death wish, but rather people who are very safety conscious. This is our website www.dreamwalkers.nl. You can also see some pictures of slacklining that I took at a festival in Holland at the start of summer 2015 (http://on.fb.me/1IYrZYf)
Right now, on the world trip, I have a rodeo line (a slackline, but it hangs quite loosely), I’d be happy to teach you.

Photography. I really enjoy the challenge of trying to take really high quality photographs. I am lucky enough to have a high quality camera and three lenses with me, so it is only me which limits the quality of the photos. I love hearing feedback, learning about new techniques (both with the camera and in post-pro), so have a look at my photography page on facebook (http://on.fb.me/1MnnZzn). If you have some cools things in your neighbourhood/city, please let me know, I am always trying to tell the story of a place through photos.

Learning. Maybe it seems strange, but I love learning. Most of my youtube channels are educational and really interesting. In my spare time I generally either slackline, take photos or if the weather stops both of these, watch some cool videos on youtube.

Music, Movies, and Books

Constantly evolving tastes. I have been recently reading books about the chinese cultural revolution and this has sparked the desire in me to know more about the history of countries. If you have a good book about a history of a country, please let me know!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Learning to highline, it has taken me places (physically and emotionally) that no other thing has

Teach, Learn, Share

I have travelled the world for a year, so I could give you some advice about undertaking such a trip/

What I Can Share with Hosts

My time of course! Since you have been so generous to open your dwelling to me, I’d like to reciprocate and hang out with you! I am an independent traveller, you don’t need to hand me by the hand, I have couch surfed quite a few times and know how to live in someone’s home.

I’d love to cook with you or go out for a reasonably priced meal :-)
