About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To get busy living, not get busy dying.

ABOUT ME

I'm a busybody teaching and going to school in Indianapolis. I originally participated in Couchsurfing when I was a college student in Bloomington, IN... and now I'm living and working in Indianapolis. I'd love to meet up and have a beer or go on a hike

I need to take more risks. I want to see the world. I want to learn things. I want to meet people... but honest and loving people. That's important.

PHILOSOPHY

"What should young people do with their lives today? Many things, obviously. But the most daring thing is to create stable communities in which the terrible disease of loneliness can be cured." - Kurt Vonnegut

"The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something."
- Kurt Vonnegut, A Man Without a Country

"There must be quite a few things a hot bath won't cure, but I don't know many of them. "
- Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Traveling, hosting, meeting & greeting.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted a few people traveling the US, couchsurfed a little in the US, and couchsurfed around five times when I was in Ireland for a couple months. All experiences were great, and I have no regrets!

Interests

Hiking (doing the 52 hike challenge currently), photography, camping napping, eating, movies, horses, road trips, parties, the night, coffee shops, reading, NPR, social justice, and getting White folks to acknowledge their privilege so they can work to make this world a more equitable place.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like any music that makes me want to dance, or any music that makes me want close my eyes and relax.

As for books, I struggle not buying one every time I step into a bookstore. I have books piled up in my room because I don't have enough shelf space. I love them, and they are the first things I would save if my house was going up in flames (apart from my roommate and my cat). Some of my favorites: The Bell Jar, Breakfast of Champions, Catcher in the Rye, Interpretor of Maladies, The Namesake, Life of Pi, The Green Mile, The Sun Also Rises. I'm also getting into poetry now, too.

I also enjoy movies, particularly ones that open my eyes to new perspectives and make me look at life differently. Some of my faves: The Shawshank Redemption, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, American Beauty, Serendipity, Love Actually, Crash, The Life of David Gale, The Darjeeling Limited

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived in Ireland for a couple months and it was my first time out of the country. I couchsurfed during my stay and met some amazing people, and had experiences that top everything else I've done in my life so far.

Currently working to complete the52 hike challenge this year!

Teach, Learn, Share

I am very good at balancing things on my head, despite the fact that I am a complete klutz. I'm not sure if I'll be able to teach you that skill though; I think you just have to have a really flat head.

I want to be a writer, but my work ethic is awful, so if you know a way to fix that, let me know!

I can look over and edit your paper/story/essay if you want... it's good practice for the future-teacher part of me. I also LOVE photography... taking pictures feels like therapy. So I can do that, too!

I want to learn to cook! I love food, but can't make it very well unless I follow a strict recipe!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am working towards myPhD in urban education, and can share my passionate views with you if you are interested in hearing about it.

If you don't want me to ramble on about that, I of course still plan to introduce you to some local breweries and eateries, as well as the local hiking and biking spots.
