About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Getting my footing in Baltimore.

ABOUT ME

I've lived in a lot of different places, met a lot of different people, and done a lot of different things to get by. Through all my experiences I have come to appreciate the value and necessity of good, true friendship.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is good.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have used one couch; and I've hosted a number of Couchsurfers now. I've had positive experiences in all cases.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I couchsurfed in Baltimore and had a great time and met some great people. Without CS, I would have been on my own in Baltimore - not knowing the best ways to get certain places, etc.

Interests

I enjoy: ancient, medieval and modern history; playing with dogs; watching wolves; harassing cats (in a friendly way, I like cats); stargazing; competitive swimming; casual biking; drinking coffee with company; teaching people who want to learn; Romania; eating and cooking Mexican food; entertaining non-fiction books; traveling; thoughtful films; beautiful material culture; interesting music; meeting old friends; archaeology; Germany; college basketball; summer.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love all kinds of films, old and new, which give me some reason to think (e.g., Cool Hand Luke, Amadeus). I also love all kinds of music (except modern country), but it depends on my mood or task what I choose to listen at a given time (e.g. if I'm tired and need to stay awake, I like Rammstein). I am much more picky with books, since I am a slow reader - I really enjoy excellent histories (e.g. Herodotus, Gibbons), but I have been known to read historical fiction, science-fiction, and other non-fiction books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most beautiful experiences of my life was watching the sunrise from atop Mt. Sinai in Egypt.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have real experience teaching Latin, ancient Greek, Roman history, and Greek history. I also am very good at helping people write in English (you'd be surprised how many people don't understand the grammar of their own language!). And I would LOVE to tell you anything about archaeology!

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Canada, Costa Rica, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Switzerland, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
