Overview
About Me
I'm from the Yorkshire Dales in the north of England originally but now live near Portsmouth in the UK, working in IT.
Really easy-going, open minded and always willing to try anything once!
In the summer of 2011 I CouchSurfed on a road trip full-circle round the US and Canada for three months, then a cross-country rail trip for another month, followed by the Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert.
Best. Summer. EVER.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I CouchSurfed for nearly five months round the US & Canada in 2011, and my hosts were the best thing about the trip without any doubt. I've surfed in a few other countries too and still believe it's the greatest way to travel.
Now I'm living near Portsmouth - I hosted several people a few years ago when I first moved here but now I've moved away from the city into a small town with my wife and kid. Although I was so grateful to all the people who hosted me during my travels, I'm no longer hosting new people.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The trip of a lifetime in the summer of 2011 - watching 220mph cars at the Indy 500, dodging bears on the road at Yellowstone, watching the pink clouds at sunset on the beach in Vancouver, driving through 10ft of snow in Oregon in June, sitting on the railings at Sacred Heart hospital, walking on the white and gold sparkling sand in San Diego, being intercepted by mysterious white pickup trucks at Area 51, sheltering from the Arizona sun under the wing of a B-52, drinking Tequila from the bottle in a pool until dawn near Phoenix, watching the setting sun while sitting on the rim of the Grand Canyon, listening to a live brass band with locals in New Orleans, seeing the very last space shuttle take off, snorkelling a reef in the Florida Keys, hiking through a torrential thunderstorm in the Great Smoky Mountains, eating real cheesesteak in Philly, blagging my way through the guest list for free drinks at a rooftop party overlooking ground zero in lower Manhattan, eating freshly caught Maine lobster by the sea, climbing and caving at 2am near Denver, helping to build a city in the Nevada desert, and much more.
Teach, Learn, Share
My top tip for CS: if you're travelling with friends, each of your friends should have their own profiles (and you should send a link to theirs with your request). Otherwise they're not CouchSurfers, they're just a random tag-along.
Keep it safe, keep it organised, and keep it a great way to travel!
