About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Don't dream your life.... Live your dream!!

ABOUT ME

I managed to retire early at 55 and now I am spending as much of my time traveling as I can. Over the past five years I have done more cross-country trips across America than I can remember just having fun and also exploring my ancestral roots which as fate has it is spread all across America from Colorado, through Missouri and Kentucky to the East Coast in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina.

I traveled in Europe on a journey to extend our search and research across the Atlantic from where my ancestors came prior to moving to America in 2010. I have also been traveling across the United States in the last few years uncovering the elements of my family history and where my ancestors lived and worked. I have additional trips planned in this quest and expect to travel back to Europe as well as other places in the coming years.

I enjoy life, I am very positive, and I have been told I am young for my years. Travel is in my blood as I have been on the road somewhere from the time I was born and crossed the Pacific Ocean twice before I was five years old. In over 50 years of traveling I find that it is the touching of people's spirits and lives along the way that makes travel real and worthwhile!

PHILOSOPHY

I am a positive thinker, I feel the world is interconnected much more that we think! I love to chat with people and explore their belief systems and what makes them tick.

Life is meant to be lived each day and enjoyed completely from the beginning to the very last second in the end.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I will be looking forward to meeting people on the road, but I also can offer some really wonderful experiences to travelers in the San Diego area. I love to sail on my 30 foot boat and would love to have people aboard for a day trip or more in the area. People who are coming to the San Diego area should contact me as I spend a lot of time on my boat in San Diego.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have done a lot of "seat of the pants" travel most of my life. Primarily by car, but I have hitched in the past and stayed with folks here and there as well as camped along the roadside. The last trip to Europe I stayed in a lot of hostels and really enjoyed that experience.

I traveled from October 2010 to January 2011 exploring a number of places to include Eastern Europe, Germany, the Low Countries and into the UK. During that trip I Couchsurfed a number of wonderful people in Lithuania, Ukraine, Denmark, Netherlands, England, and France.

I have hosted a number of people in San Diego and Oroville both in California as well as on board my 30 foot Newport Sailboat "Wasserschloss".

Interests

I am really interested in history from all periods! I love to see significant historical sites. I am also very interested in researching my family's history. I can trace my roots back to Scotland, England, Normandy, and Germany.

I find I am very fascinated by the city and towns and they way they are formed and evolve. The structure of a place often reveals hidden histories tales of the people who live and work there.

I write both fiction and non fiction, and love digital photography. You will find me with my camera never far away and you might find yourself as a subject of one of my pictures.

I am into restoring and using antique cars. I have a few 60's vintage mustangs in my stable. I actually have driven my 68 Mustang Convertible coast to coast and from Chicago to LA on old Route 66 in recent years.

Last but certainly not least, I really love to sail. My Newport30 is named Wasserschloss and she is my joy and my retreat.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am very much into folk music and music of the 60's and 70's. I love Tom Paxton, Peter, Paul & Mary, Dylan, and many other folk artists...

Jimmy Buffet speaks to my sailing soul and I enjoy his work greatly, but also similar artists like Eric Stone who is much well less known.

I am not much into hip hop as I think it lacks depth and melody with to me is critical for good music.

Classical such as the German composers like Beethoven and Bach as well as Wagner and Mozart are some of my favorites.

As for Movies, I enjoy a good adventure movie and love comedy. I am always interested in old John Wayne films but also enjoy more modern adventure/action films.

Books I tend to move towards non-fiction historical works, but I do enjoy fiction authors like Douglas Adams whom I find to be funny and insightful. Mark Twain is one of the Authors who I enjoy and love visualize traveling with him on his adventures.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There are so many, where does one start? I loved Australia! I really enjoy Germany and Christmas in Germany. The ruins in Greece are just wonderful!
I did drive old Route 66 from beginning to end in a vintage 68 mustang convertible. Crossed the Pacific 4 times... once by ship.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share my historical knowledge, auto crafts, sailing, my knowledge of the world. I have traveled in Asia, Europe and all over America. There are still places to be seen!! I am also an avid sailor and love to have people on my sailboat for a day or more just to enjoy the sailing life.
