About Me

I enjoy traveling, learning and experiences new cultures, cities, countries, or getting to know the diversity in my own country (South Africa). I seek platforms to learn about urban contexts and how urbanisation is experienced across the world.
I love to explore cities and experience places that tourists miss out on

I am an activist and engage with issues of social justice and marginal communities, by participating in actions of transformation.

It excites me to meet and learn from new people.
I do not have a 5 or 10 year plan, I pitch up, take every opportunity I get and see what happens. So far, so good

I used to work in the NGO sector for a number of years. I am now a researcher at the University of Pretoria. My current research focus is on community health, and the impact industries have on the health of their host communities.

I am in a new phase of my life, figure out what is next

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Visiting a foreign country or city is best experienced when you are immersed, rather than staying at a hotel of some sorts. Being hosted by a friendly local, the experience is enhanced and you no longer feel just like a tourist passing through. Being part of such a large community breaks down barriers.
I enjoy taking people around in my city, showing them the road less traveled by tourists, showing the great things and the not so great things about my city.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On my way to an island off the cost of Maputo, Mozambique, I met a stranger on the bus who offered me accommodation, which I gladly accepted. During the trip, I walked around an island called Inhaca, making my way through mangrove forests and surviving for a week on fish we caught.
