To travel around the world making new friends and have others visit us when we are not traveling.

ABOUT ME

Wayne and Janna met back in the distant past at UC Berkeley, where we were both graduate teaching assistants in the college of business. Janna came from an Air Force family, born in Frankfurt Germany, and moved every year or two of her childhood. Wayne, although from a Navy family, was born and raised in San Diego. We were married in December 1977 and have had a wonderful life. After the birth of our second child in 1988 we moved from the Bay Area, California up to Truckee, CA in the majestic Sierra Nevada mountains, where our children grew up.Prior to children our passion was whitewater kayaking and camping. When the babies came along we still managed to go camping and would work in at least one multi-day river trip each year. We enjoy hiking, outdoor activities, traveling and learning history and about cultures of the places we visit. After our children left home, we purchased a motor home for traveling to Alaska, Canada, and throughout the USA. In July of 2008 as we were leaving Whiteshell Provincial Park in eastern Manitoba in a heavy downpour, we picked up two hitchhikers -- a young French woman, and a Danish man. They told us all about couchsurfing. We told our kids, and now as a result our kids have been more places than we have, which is totally unfair. We began rectifying that situation in 2010.

PHILOSOPHY

Wayne is a very optimistic, kind, calm, intelligent person with a very dry sense of humor. He can do just about anything well - physically and mentally skilled.

Janna is a passionate person. She loves to share what she has learned about local history and the places she has been to. She loves Rock and Roll and to dance to a great beat. She firmly believes that music can save her mortal soul.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We surfed in Europe May - July 2011 and June - July 2012. We host at our home in Reno during the early part of the year (January - April)and have enjoyed about 10 surfers. We enjoy connecting with people and learning about where they live and assisting people in learning about our beautiful and very special area of the planet.
We look forward to hosting more surfers.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have hosted lovely couples, a mother daughter duo, and several single people.

May 2011 - Porto, Portugal
June thru July 2011 - Hamburg, Germany; Odense & Karise, Denmark; Berlin, Germany, Dresden, Germany,
Sopron, Hungary and Ljubljana, Slovenia.

June 2012 hiked the Julian Alps with our wonderful Slovenian hostess from 2011, back to Berlin to visit our Berlin 2011 hostess, and surfed in July 2012 in Liverpool, London, and the Lakes District, England.

Interests

Hiking, kayaking/rafting, ocean outrigger paddling, snorkeling, traveling. Art, music, history, culture, languages, and politics. We enjoy learning more about everything. Life long learners.

Janna's favorite music - Led Zepplin, Cream, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, and all the oldies Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis. Like great salsa - Latin beat - Gipsy Kings, Rodrigo y Gabriela and rocking Blues - Allman Brothers, etc She is just a sweet little rock and roller....

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We have kayaked the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River several times. Janna flipped and rolled up in Lava Falls, and Wayne ran it upright.
In December 2011 we did a night SCUBA dive off of Kona, Hawaii and watched 18 large to enormous manta rays eat plankton while skimming an inch over our heads. Awesome animals!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Wayne is an excellent handyman and when we have surfed with single ladies he tries to fix whatever needs fixing around the house.

Janna can show you a green, cheap, and quick way to clean glass with no streaks!
