ABOUT ME

I'm doing some pretty radical things with my life right now. Just moved to NYC from my hometown in Richmond, Virginia. My girlfriend and I are living together. I turned down a cushy ride to a perfectly good grad program to go get jugular deep in debt. Things are pretty crazy but I'm excited and optimistic of big things happening.

Starting in September, I will be pursuing an M.A. in Instructional Technology and Media from Columbia University. Based on my experiences in applied mathematics and education, I am interested in making video games that illustrate complex systems i.e. next-gen SimCity.

I'm living with my girlfriend in a teeny tiny, but plenty big for us, studio in Midtown East. We're on the 28th floor and have a pretty awesome view of the city. We even get some really great breezes that I like to think are coming from the ocean.

My career has begun to absorb my life but I still have a few other interests. I play guitar and I just wrote my first song! I love basketball. I like to play chess but it is kind of difficult to find players who are both decent but not too emotionally invested. I sing all the time; in the shower, cooking, sometimes while eating, walking, sitting, and during all other activities as well.

Not quite sure how it's all going to work out but we'll just have to see. I'm excited but also a little frightened of what I've gotten myself into. My father says that those emotions are indicative of impending adventure. Thanks Dad.

I surf and I've responded to a couple requests for surfing but no bites yet. Maybe I'll have more takers in NYC than Richmond or Williamsburg, VA.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I surfed in Washington, Oregon, and California with my girlfriend during our bike trip down the West Coast.

Chesapeake native oyster reefs exhibit bistability which is dependent on reef height. So restoration efforts must focus on building higher reefs to resist sedimentation.
