About Me

I was raised in a little town called Heemstede, close to Haarlem in the Netherlands, and after my Australia trip I moved to Amsterdam where I've lived for 6 years until I finished my bachelors degree in Physics with a minor in Computer Sciences. Afterwards I decided to switch to fulltime programming, and after several other travels I decided to move to Berlin, where I've lived since 2015 and will return to after my current travels.

I've already spent a fair bit of my life traveling, visiting place such as Australia (2007-2008), Eastern Europe (2008, 2009, 2010), Nepal (2014), South-East Asia + Japan/Taiwan (2015) and I am currently traveling South America for half a year. In my spare time I enjoy doing funsports (snowboarding, surfing etc), deejaying, discovering new music and I am trying to pick up more languages as I go. Apart from that I'm pretty easy going and eager to find out more about local life while traveling and experiencing what it's like living somewhere apart from just visiting the tourist trail.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am hoping to get in touch with locals and hoping to exchange either language or other knowledge, previous experiences and perhaps travel tips for places I've visited before. Also in the past I've had the privilege of being able to stay with either friends (or friends of friends) in foreign countries which allowed me to experience living as a local, so I'm hoping to find more of such experiences on this platform.

Interests

I've been skiing and snowboarding since I was 4 years old, and have tried to pick up other funsports along the years such as (wave)surfing and I am also eager to learn kite-surfing. Music has always been one of the important fundaments of my life, I've been visiting a lot of concerts and festivals for the last 15 years, played a bit of guitar and bass and now collect a lot of music and deejay for fun. During my travels I also hope to find more weird music to incorporate into my growing collection.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy musical genres such as: techno, experimental electronic music, noise, deeptechno, krautrock, breakbeat, dark-disco, ambient, IDM, in general weird preferable unpredictable stuff.

I used to binge watch most of the movie classics (e.g. Dr Strangelove, A Clockwork Orange, Pulp Fiction, Amelie, Motorcycle Diaries, etc etc etc), but nowadays I try to focus more on learning new things.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal, hitchhiking across the border from Myanmar to Thailand, visit the city from Spirited Away (anime classic) in Taiwan.
