About Me
Rewind six years ago to when Emmett and I first met in Rome (insert wavy-reminiscent music)
I had just left my job as a Social Worker for a luxurious position at the Spanish Steps Pub Crawl (notice the sarcasm) trying to convince tourists to spend their evening partying at the Highlander Pub and giving me their money ;) After about a month of way too many drinking games and countless hours of standing in the sun handing out flyers... I met Emmett and his brother. Check out my opening line... *clearing throat* "What ya'll doing tonight!?" I don't know why but they remember me saying it with a Texas accent... Lol but thats what I said. Working for a Pub Crawl you could have the potential of making lots of money on commission. Emmett and his brother came back for 5 nights to the Pub! CA-CHING! ;)
Unfortunately the fun had to end... they continued their journey through Europe... and I stayed with my flyers. In Rome. Alone. *sigh*
Fast-forward THREE years, lots of e-mails, phone calls and Skype chats later, Emmett and I meet again. For the second time. Ever. This time was so different. Kind of. I was working with a non-profit organization as a Teacher at a High School and this time I didn't leave my job for that fancy Pub Crawl gig. I left it for Australia! During my visit with Emmett he spoke about his new job in the mines and convinced me to join him! ..... so I did. See? Different. Told you. ;)
We have been together three years now, settling down in different parts of the world but traveling for the most part. Since we come from different countries, staying together is a massive headache- visa wise. Although, he still gives me headaches, lol. Our situation is very different than most and because of it we've managed to see a lot of places and experience it differently. Emmett is a jack-of-all-trades and is the Travel Manager (yes, we have titles lol) and I am the Head of Finances (I love budgets, lol) so we rely heavily on each other to do our parts and we've managed to see a total of over 14 countries together because of it.
In terms of our character? Emmett is an Irish man, I mean, when was the last time you met a boring Irish man?! 'Nuff said. I, on the other hand, am first generation American, born and raised in Boston by Guatemalan parents. So I am very different ( I think) to your typical American traveler.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Locals do it better!
Also, we are on a mission. Yes, mission. That is to get back to Derry, Ireland by land and sea. We began in Hat Yai, the most southern city in Thailand, visited Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and now Hong Kong. We will head to Shanghai and Beijing in the next week where we will carry on to Mongolia and Russia via the Trans Siberian express!
Getting to stay with locals and exploring the cities like a local is exactly what we are after. So... we are recruiting some help! :)
