About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Play good music with good people

ABOUT ME

As easy going as I can possibly be!! Always up for a wee drink. I don't really like to talk about myself know what I mean, is that a guilty Irish thing...???...I love people, straight talking people who are open and honest... I love conversation, listening to peoples stories!! Music is my passion, my career, I made that decision when I was young, and have never regretted it for one second, being a musician teaches you a lot about life, about personal relationships, and for me, is a connection to your most inner thoughts that sometimes words cannot carry...I listen to all sorts of mad stuff, and normal stuff too, depends on what mood I'm in...???...

PHILOSOPHY

Live by your own standards, set the bar high, be excellent to each other...

Why not...

Interests

I live my life for three things really, music, food, and people. That's what I'm all about on the most basic of levels. I suppose, I'm what you would call a "professional" musician...???...as in that's what I try to do for a living, the money's terrible, but the people you meet and the experiences you share make it all worthwhile. If I wasn't a musician I'd be a chef, I love cooking, eating, talking about food, thinking about food, reading about food!! And I love people who are passionate about food!! The kebabs in Toulouse are the best I've ever tasted!! "People", the other thing I said I live for, for me, covers a lot of things...literature, visual art, music, philosophy...all that stuff, other people are the reason I exist, surround yourself with good people, share in laughter and love, and you're on the right track!!

Music, Movies, and Books

Ahh...way too much stuff to talk about...I listen to lots of music, I love all sorts of jazz, especially the mad stuff, free jazz or contemporary jazz, The Bad Plus are one of my favourite bands...love Cuban stuff, Dafnis Prieto is a legend. Of course I love my Irish music, and I have a strange affection for Indian music, Zakir Hussain blows my mind, he's the Bruce Lee of the tablas, love Shakti with John Mc Laughlin. Phil Collins is a legend, Easy Lover, what a tune!! John Martyn, Joni Mitchell, CSN, Hendrix, love The Bronx, a kickass punk band. Love Debussy, Erik Satie, Liu Fang, Billy Joel, Elton John, Orchestra Baobab, Oumou Sangare, Squarepusher, Bjork, Farmers Market, Planxty...I hear the Beatles are quite good!!

I only recently started to read again, quite liked 1984, The Road was pretty grim but a good read nonetheless, Moby Dick, what a nightmare to read, half way through it but enjoying it, A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, good read for your headspace, The Celestine Prophecies, haha read The Jungle Book a while ago, it was brilliant!! Just bought a few Albert Camus books, The Stranger (The Outsider), The Rebel, The Myth of Sisyphus...liked The Life of Pi, Fear and Loathing was a funny read, listening to Alan Watts is interesting and quite funny...Wayne Shorter biography, Charlie Parker biography, Thelonious Monk biography. Reading a bit of Nietzsche these days...

I absolutely hate television, threw my aerial out yrs ago, it's responsible for a lot of problems in this world, I can't begin to tell you how much I hate television!!!! However that said, I enjoy anything that has artistic worth, or offers good entertainment, I don't watch any series because they would just consume my music time, and I procrastinate enough as it is!! But I'm not a hater or nothing lol...Seen a real good French movie, Poulet aux Prune, fantastically done!! Never really been a big screen Cinema fan, I just hate all the consumerism that's attached to it, but if I find a nice small Cinema that shows decent movies, I'm all for that!! But honestly, I kind of neglect movies, I really should watch more of them (good ones).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Shared a moment in a bar in Bucharest, Romania, where two Irish guys, a Polish girl, and a Galician guy, all from different cultural backgrounds, all rather hungover from strong Romanian black lager, all from different upbringings, different political viewpoints, through conversation, reached the same point of agreement...that life is about sharing with people, that we are in control of our own lives through our attitudes and actions, that people are the key to life...for want of a better phrase, as Bill and Ted said, "just be excellent to eachother..." It helped me reaffirm my faith in people!!

Driving round the coast of Spain and swimming in the stunningly beautiful Mediterranean sea, kinda blew my mind!!

Sitting at midnight in a natural hot bath in a river in the South of France with my girlfriend who never ceases to amaze me, whilst looking at the stars, breathtaking, never felt anything like it...

Teach, Learn, Share

I dunno...we all learn from eachother, who knows??? Though, I can give you or someone you know guitar/drum/tabla lessons!!
