Always a fanatical nomad, occasional hedonist, sometime a pseudo-philosopher, New Age romantic. Freedom and secular humanism are governing principles of my life.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I keep a busy work, family and social life, and am fairly engaged in heritage conservation NGO advocacy (singaporeheritage.org) and indie traveller (sgtravelcafe.com) activities. I also travel for a few months in one year. Hence, I cannot often host, but I do welcome those who share similar intense interest in history, culture and anthropology to contact me. Depending on circumstances, I can either host or meet for coffee.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am not very experienced in using couchsurfing. Have hosted a few couchsurfers but mainly people I met under other circumstances. Couchsurfed only once, in Turks & Caicos Islands. Wonderful experience with Paul and Adina Ciurar.

Interests

1) Travel: Been to over 181 UN members and 42 other territories and political entities

2) Reading: On history, politics & anthropology
Particularly interested in obscured histories and cultures, ancient civilisations, great migrations of ethnic groups and formation of nations.

3) Writing: Author of 3 travel narratives

4) Love attending ethnic festivals and trying local cuisines.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

First caught the travelbug more than a decade ago, he has since been getting into lots of trouble, including: Detained in Bulgaria, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Ukraine & the rebel state of Transdniestria; Mugged in St Petersburg, Jerusalem & Romania; Scuffling with a gangster in Cyprus & ex-child soldiers in Liberia; Survived road accidents in Albania & riots in Burkina Faso.
