About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To enjoy living on a paradise island for as long as I can

ABOUT ME

I'm originally from the outskirts of London but after deciding to leave a few years ago I embarked on my first real travels to South East Asia. Like many people I had followed the traditional school, University, job route but at the ripe age of 29 I decided to see what else was out there. Before I set off to Asia I used to snatch a 2 week holiday somewhere or if lucky I'd manage a short break to go skiing. That was over 3 years ago and I am still pretty much on holiday although I have to combine it with some work to pay the bills. When I say work, my job as a diving instructor is the only "job" where on my days off I still want to go to the "office" and hang out underwater. Since leaving I have never looked back although I have to make the odd visit home the check on my neice and nephew and the rest of my family.

I enjoy hanging out with some great mates here either on the beach, the boat but more usually at the bar.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

On the island where I live I see many people each day hunting around for accommodation as I once did, and I have in the past offered a place to crash to complete strangers. I was introduced to couchsurfing via a good friend of mine who explained how he has hosted many people with only good things to say about the whole experience.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Whilst being a member since last year I have only now decided to update my profile and to see what happens. I have not had any couchsurfing experiences yet but you have to start somewhere.

Interests

You may have guessed I enjoy the outdoors and living on Koh Tao has plenty of outdoor activities. Most days I tend to be teaching diving, but the odd afternoon I get off I tend to hang out on the beach. I guess I could add frisbee as an interest but I also enjoy exploring different parts of the island. Saying that, after 3 years here I have still not visited all of the beaches so maybe couchsurfing will encourage me to get round the rest of the beaches here!!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Diving with tiger and bulls sharks in Borneo and jumping out of a plane in oz.

Teach, Learn, Share

As you have read my job involves teaching people to dive and in the past I have taught from 10 year olds upwards from all backgrounds and countries. If anyone out there is interested or curious about the underwater world then I will be happy to help. Or if a rough guide of the island is what you need then I would be happy to give you the low down on the places not shown in the guidebooks.
