About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel the US. Move to a great American City. Collect stories of people I meet through audio/video.

ABOUT ME

I'm a writer who travels--but not a travel writer (ask me about it).
I've got a wacky name, but it's not so hard to pronounce if you try.

I've previously traveled to Bolivia for a 3 month volunteer-oriented study abroad program and traveled 3 months through Central America on a solo backpacking trip.

I'm usually the first to start the dancing anywhere I go, and I'm never afraid to dance alone. I party hard when the time comes, but without alcohol or drugs, and don't mind if that's what you're into. I'm spiritual, but not religious. I believe that nothing that happens to us is a coincidence, the energy we cultivate is the energy we receive. I've been told I'm skinny, but make no mistake, I love food. I get along with lots of different kinds of people, but I happen to make friends with writers, creatives, musicians, hippies, hipsters, environmentalists and yogis the most, although I'm open to all types. I'm a moderate in most respects, although I like to learn from people with extreme/alternative points of view.

I'm always laid back when the pressure's on and my favorite activity is getting to know people--asking questions helps me write and understand the world better.

I will cook for you, even if I don't know how to make something. We can make it for the first time together if you'd like. If you play an instrument, I will sing along.

PHILOSOPHY

Listen to your instincts, do what is not expected of you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm just starting out in the couchsurfing network. So many good people have made me feel comfortable on my travels and I'd like to give back and do the same for them.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have friends who've hosted surfers and other friends who've highly recommended doing it. Though not through couchsurfing, I've hosted a number of traveling bands, speakers, and world wanderers in a group house in Pittsburgh, PA for 3 years.

Interests

Writing, interviewing, film, radio, singing, some guitar, dancing/dance parties, yoga, Spanish, feminism, collecting miniature books (just started), volunteering, working with kids, meeting strangers.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'd rather not list everything, since I'm into a little of this and a little of that, but this is what springs to mind...

Books: The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Catcher in the Rye, The Stranger, Bird by Bird (or books about writing in general)

Movies: Before Sunset/Sunrise, Stand by Me, Everything is Illuminated, Clueless, The Green Mile, Jesus Camp/ 12th and Delaware(and other documentaries by Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing)

Music: Amy Winehouse, Fiona Apple, Regina Spektor, Bob Marley, Feist, anything acapella, love unconventional covers

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

On my recent travels I climbed 5 volcanoes, one I volcano boarded down, and one was the highest point in Central America. The funny thing is, I didn't realize I liked hiking so much before I started hiking volcanoes.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am at an intermediate level of Spanish. I'd like to do a language exchange with someone who has Spanish as their first language and wants to learn English.

Estoy en un intermedio nivel de Espanol. Me gustaria participar en un intercambio de idioma con alguien que tiene espanol a su primer idioma.
