About Me

I am the kind of person who finds it difficult to write an “About Me” profile because I often overthink it but well, I’ll try -

I am born and raised in Singapore which is my "physical" home as it is where I grew up and where my family is, but I often find myself feeling out of place there as I do not subscribe to its ethos. I find my "emotional" home everywhere else while I'm traveling and/or meeting people who share similar ways of thinking, living, seeing and feeling, those who value deep connections with people, animals and nature, more than material possessions.

I find myself drawn to "alternative ways" of living. One of my dreams is travel in a caravan home and eventually, to also build my own tiny house, where I will design the interior, physically build the house and live in it. I love the philosophy of tiny houses, particularly that we rethink the space we need. As a person who grew up in the city, I often romanticise the idea of living in nature, growing your own food and living minimally.

I am also a huge animal lover! I am the happiest when I am surrounded by animals and very often feel deeply connected and at peace when I am with animals. My family adopted a dog 3 years ago and I love him deeply! He's the hardest thing to leave behind when I travel, so I compensate by thinking and talking about him a lot - I WILL show you photos of him even if you don’t ask for it. I also volunteer with horses in Singapore at a charity organisation that engages retired horses from polo/racing to be therapy horses for children with different needs.

Other things I love include - dancing/movement (I have been learning trapeze!), music (live music, festivals, everything!), hiking/camping, being in nature, reading, watching films, cooking/baking (vegetarian), coffee, wine and ice cream!

Beyond the self, I am passionate about human rights issues, in particular social inequalities, feminism and workers' rights. I am a Sociology graduate who later picked up videography/editing on my own as I wanted to use documentaries and video storytelling as a platform to open up conversations about these issues. I have most recently also started pursuing journalism to hopefully further this endeavour.

Currently I am taking a break from my life in Singapore as it got overwhelmingly stagnant and I figured that I needed to go out, be inspired and figure out my next steps. I am now traveling for 2-3 months (maybe more, who knows). I don't know where I'm going with the traveling, but that's exactly what I need right now, because it's all about the journey, not the destination, isn't it?

I am looking foward to meeting more people and feeling feelings of home away from home!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I think the best way to explore a new city is through the local people! I love meeting new people and experiencing different ways of living and seeing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I asked a man to stop interrupting and mansplaining.

I gave my friend a Chinese name, then tattooed it on her.

I helped to transport a bull from one village to another (many kilometers away)… literally.
