About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To have friends all over the world!
EDIT: I have a child now, so looking to connect with other families, couples, and family friendly folks!

ABOUT ME

I first discovered my love of travel as a kid walking on the beach with my mom. It was a sunny day and as we were walking, she asked me what direction I was going. She explained we were going North and that if we continued to walk for a long time, we'd be in Georgia. It was then that I realized how connected we all are.

My wife (Stephanie) and I travel the world as much as possible and try to meet people from all over the world. We try to learn and experience other cultures whenever we have the opportunity.

I teach American History. I enjoy all types of travel, but truly enjoy exploring cities on bicycle. If you're in the area, I can show you some great areas to bike. In 2009 I discovered how frequent flyer miles work and now I travel the world constantly.

PHILOSOPHY

If you give yourself to the journey, the journey gives itself to you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My wife and I have a child now, so we're mainly looking to connect with other couples, families, or people who enjoy kids. :-)

I'm kind of new to the Raleigh area myself, but what I do know of it I can show you. There are some cute areas to walk around. My favorite couch surfing experiences involve cooking. There's also a really cool hiking trail in my neighborhood. Cook something for us from your culture, and we'll cook something for you from ours!

As a side note, I'm a very organized person, so if you need help planning fun activities, and saving a ton of money, contact me and I'll be glad to help!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Before joining the site, I hosted a couple German kids who were backpacking the USA. We have travelled to about 50 countries thus far. We've gone to a bunch of CS events and have made friends from all over the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movie: A Map for Saturday
Music: Italo, Hi-NRG

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've flown in a biplane from 1927. I've been to the DMZ in North Korea. I've celebrated Christmas in Vatican City. I drove ATVs in Cappadocia, Turkey where the NASA astronauts were trained to drive on the moon. I visited the Atomic Bomb memorial and taught students in Hiroshima, Japan. I've rode out on camel and slept under the stars of the Sahara desert. I've visited the pyramids of Mexico. I've never actually paid for an international flight.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've taught American History for quite a few years and love to discuss history and politics.

Also, if you can cook, take my kitchen and cook something from your country!

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belize, Bulgaria, Canada, Cayman Islands, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Honduras, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States
