About Me

People call me weird, but I think I am unique (:

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Summarise version (if you are lazy):
To gain more cultural exposure, to expand my social circle and to explore my horizons! To me, this is one of the most authentic ways of travelling.

Original and lengthy version (knock yourself out):
I started this account in 2015, but had not been utilising it until recently.

In 2015, my friends and I tried CS once in Bali and the experience was unpleasant. So I told myself I'm not going to use CS again. However, when I was doing my solo backpacking trip around North Thailand in the beginning of 2017, I had an opportunity to interact GENUINELY with the locals and was even invited to experience a different type of Songkran (Thailand's traditional new year). I learnt alot about Thai culture and also gained a new perspective about life too. The experience was nothing like staying in hotels, hostels and airbnbs. It became one of the highlights of my trip.

So when my friend asked me if I'm keen to use CS during our Trans-Siberian trip back in late 2017, I thought why not give it a try again? There's no harm, right? So throughout our 5 weeks journey, we mostly stayed with CS hosts and the experience was nothing like the first time :)

I enjoy meeting new people, learning new cultures (because the world is more than what we thought we know), striking deep or random conversations, it's interesting to see how people think or behave because of the way we are being brought up and also our culture, and most of the time, locals give the best tips to seeing the best sights of their city/town. I personally thought this is how one should travel and therefore, I want to continue CS. I hope hosts out there will give me a chance to do so.

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything which captures my attention from the beginning to the end of the tune, film and page.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well... I've crashed a stranger's itinerary by staying in a temple at North Thailand for a few days during my solo trip!

And I want to add three more amazing things that I've done!
- Trekked Annapurna Base Camp alone.
- Travelled through 6 countries with 5 timezones in 35 days, 190 hours, 1143km (sea), 8603.5km (land), spending just USD2150.
- Camped in Gobi desert!

Teach, Learn, Share

I think everyone has different experiences, expertises and opinions and we could all learn from each other. I'm sure it will be interesting and insightful :)

I would like to give back to the CS community, but I can't host yet because my family are not open to the idea of sharing our humble abode with strangers. Nevertheless, I would love to meet up fellow travellers and bring them to some of my best sights in Singapore (if i'm available). Food is subjective, but if you are willing to try local dishes, I can bring you to some of my favourite inexpensive food stalls/restaurants. We can even arrange a one day trip to neighbouring country, Johor Bahru (Malaysia). Just note that expenses are personally borne.
