ABOUT ME
Okay, so I have been neglecting my itchy feet for about 5 years now... but I'm ready to put those flyin' shoes on. I've sold all my stuff and packed my life into an external frame pack... I'm hoping between all the cool people on here and the great information on digihitch, I can have a pretty good go at this wanderlust thing- right now I'm in Burlington VT and I'm looking to hit San Francisco, SLC, Eugene or Portland, maybe The Big Island and wherever else the road takes me. Looking for fellow hitchers, bussers, hobos, helpxers or wwoofers who know the ropes and could share a few tips or stories.
So basically, even though I have been a member here for years, I am completely new to this. A little about me, I was a staff copyeditor and writer for Shockwave Magazine, a local music mag in Baltimore before i packed it all up. I am a musician and I just ditched my guitar for a smaller, lighter mandolin which I have no idea how to play. I think laughter is pretty much the only thing that matters. I am apolitical, agnostic, non-smoking, open-minded and spontaneous.
In a nutshell, I am off to find some good stories I can tell my grandkids someday.
PHILOSOPHY
You only live once, and there is a big world out there... There are a lot of things I would like to do and see, people I have not yet met in my lifetime. I am seeking out a more non-traditional way of life. One that does not trap me into having virtually the same exact day over and over until I die.
If your life starts to feel meaningless, go look at a mountain! **Treat others as if they were who they ought to be, and you will help them to become what they are capable of...** I think that was Goethe

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have yet to surf or host! I'm a noob even though I've had a profile here since '08
Interests
reading, writing, playing guitar, music, people with stories, abrupt culture shock, big ass mountains, learning and teaching alike, hiking, biking, ocean kayaking, swimming, running, smiling, laughing, chocolate, coffee, chocolate coffee, Buddhism, Taoism, Joseph Campellism, water, animals, Philo Sophia... I want to learn permaculture techniques and alternative construction methods. I'm interested in people who can show me how to not just survive, but prosper in today's society without exploiting the land and its inhabitants.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like continental philosophy and black metal. Sometimes folk, like Elliott Smith or Sam Beam. I am currently reading The Road by Jack London, The Art of Non-Conformity by some guy who thumbs his nose at society, and the Gita... the one w/ Huxley's intro.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I saw a kid turn off the Xbox and go outside, once.
Teach, Learn, Share
I play guitar and sing. I write sometimes. I love words. I want to see things that shake my foundations and make me shudder with awe...
