HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I try to host people as often as I can and show them Calgary from my prospective. I always prefer to host in the spring, summer and fall because winter can be very cold and snowy, making it difficult to get out and see the city.

When I'm travelling and staying with a host I try to learn as much from them about their culture and personality as I can. I'll help out around the house, or any other way I can.

To me, couch surfing is a way to make international friends and experience a place "like a local", not an alternative to a hotel or hostel. I like to spend at least a little bit of time with the people I host, so if you're just looking for a place to sleep, I'm probably not the right host for you.

Intereses

I love music, movies, and the arts in general. I love learning new things, especially about other cultures. I love to cook and I like to think I'm pretty good at it. I like beer and wine and all of those sorts of indulgences.

Música, películas y libros

I like everything from Hollywood blockbusters to small indie films. If it gets an Oscar Best Picture nomination I'll probably enjoy it. I'm also a sucker for Marvel Superhero flicks.

For music, I'm also pretty open and varies greatly depending on my mood. I typically prefer alternative and electronic, but I listen to a bit of everything. Some favourites are Tame Impala, James Blake, Jamie xx, Flume, Florence + The Machine, Foo Fighters, Chet Faker, Arcade Fire, Alabama Shakes.

I read a lot of business-type books, but I'm also a sucker for fiction. I've recently started listening to audiobooks and have found that I can get a lot more books in this way. Some favorites are The Name of the Wind, The Power of Habit, The Alchemist, The Girl with All the Gifts, The Magicians. etc.
