One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
A special sunday.
I was walking alone, back home from the sunday beautiful market in Lille (Wazemmes, France), with ostensibly -healthy and in abondance- food.
Around the corner, a homeless. Like usual I salut, and I felt a thankful energie back, clear, right..
I asked the stupid question "Tu as qlq chose à faire maintenant?" (= do you have something to do right now?). The answer was negatieve, like you expect indeed.. :P
I offered him to cook and eat together if he could be interested in it.
I dont need to insist on the contradictory emotions I think he had then. But I, was at least as enthousiast as him, to engage this process.
In the car... The smell was hard. With precaution I recognised it to him and offered him to take a shower at my home. When he came out of it, with a clearly smile covered at the same time by a bit of shame from the bathroom, I told him with a complice smile -like a wink- "you forgot to shave". As an invitation to do that also. Later I asked him for help with cooking. I supposed that it would be something I would really miss in his situation. And indeed he was happy to cook/help.
He talked about his situation, about that he had win a judgement (I dont remember to who) but that al his papers he needed to prouve that case, where stollen in his tent some days before. How he had time after time bad chance.
We discussed a lot, laugh a bit. We talked about books and writing. I suggested him to write because in my view he has a special perspectief to approach the topic of his situation and appears to me like a possible litteraire person.
And if I invited him to came and eat outside with a friend with whom I'de an appointment later in the day, if I
gave him some money, a jogging pack and blablabla!...
I'm specially talking about the fact that I had a delicious day in his company and that I'm still now touched by the power that this special sunday has on me. Because I had no doubt that I was doing something wel for a man animated by an noble and fragilised soul...
He stil have a book of mijn (that I only learned to him, I still expect it back ^^). So if you see a shaved homeless especially if he reads, then its probably him. Give him the salutation from Ilan and tell him I would be pleased to see him again. It's a nice guy, maybe you should invite him for a coffee?...
