About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Trying to teach my cat some cool tricks.
Update: my cat taught me wot's really cool...

ABOUT ME
I never get lost, when I look down and find my feet I know where I am. Just locations and people I come across often differ from those I had in mind in long forgotten plans...
Brave but chickenshit, always enjoys the craic, and getting off the beaten track...

I grew up pretty rural in the Black Forest, went to live in Madrid in early 80’s, and in London and than 3 years in Kenya in the 90’s, returned to Europe pretty exhausted and settled in Amsterdam some 25 years ago – good choice that was, and my son grew up here, even in the same flat where I’m still living.
And sometimes I felt like working for god directly, well that's how I was treated by the people in some pretty catholic villages in south-west Germany when I was repairing and building in and out their stained glass church windows, working high up on the scaffolding... I'm not much of a believer after all but enjoyed that position very much :)

PHILOSOPHY
The lips of wisdom are sealed, except to the understanding...
And music helps thoughts in changing direction (even better when you shake your guts dancing to it :D )

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I’m just very curious about my sisters and brothers all around our earth! I like to host as divers as I can find, and found some wonderful friends for life in between - amazing :)
And I hitchhiked all over Europe long before internet, 'surfing' fishing boats and monasteries in Greece, ruins of castles in France and Scotland, the last inhabitants of deserted villages in Spain, hippie-farms in Portugal – yeah these hippie times, what an abundance of wonderful ideas rose up then into a sort collective ‘knowledge’ – and the most important linger on right here.

Interests

Live music! Be it gigs in pubs or jam sessions in Blues Clubs, or festivals or house dance parties, or frogs and geese at waterholes, or the sounds that found things can make when I drag them home at night through empty sleeping streets just coz I have the feeling they could possibly come in handy one day - I call them my material, and some I give real names, like Henkie the green table leg: I found him badly wounded by fire in which some unholy brute had thrown him only for the color of his varnish can u imagine?! But he beautifully recovered and lives ever since as a dancing left upper leg on my deepgreen kitchen table, impishly teasing the former thug who’s been painted and fitted to serve as the legs beneath.
Also dive into nature, talking to flowers and trees and watching all sorts of animals, well most of all I like meeting donkeys, octopuses or aliens but I take what I can get :)

  • live music
  • wild life
  • good craic in many ways

Music, Movies, and Books

Very divers, love the Latin rhythm as much as Reggae, Greek or Irish music (these ballads!), am often fascinated by ‘native’ music of all continents, I like good old Blues and Rock, got closer to Punk and Metal via my son :) and getting now more an more intrigued by Psychedelic/Electronic/House/Trance/Bom Voyages, Party at the Church in Ruigoord...
And I like the Drummers of Cala Benirrás on Ibiza (not on sundays though), the famous entertainer and crooner Michael Born (who's a great friend), and Pink Floyd 4breakfast huh :D

About movies or books, well I prefer the funny side, I enjoy the fantasy of Science Fiction and the humor of Monty Python, Marx Brothers and Southpark, but pretty Bored of the Rings, and heroes and kings anyway...
All in all I seem more interested in real life stories, the ones that never make it onto paper.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Run away from home and hitchhiked to Greece when I was 16, first sound travel on my own, life changing journey that was, wonderful memories!
And I hugged a top-ten-member of the royal family of England to congratulate him to his career step when he became a gardener on a houseboat in London after been kicked out of royalty for his love for lsd...
Or last year I made this trip to Cuba - breathtaking! Despite great difficulties there lives this 'alegria' - vibrant, intense, contagious, and amazing ingenious :D

Teach, Learn, Share

Know quite a few useful tricks, like how to treat various insect bites: moister tobacco with spit and rub that on the bite, the sooner the better, surprisingly effective!

Or I can show you how to make a lamp off an old soup ladle:
www.bluelizard.nl/libertin-leuchten/unikate.html#soupladle (=Tischleuchte mit Messing-Schöpfkelle),
My brother designs and builds them mostly, but sometimes I find some 'material' :)
