About Me

Hey, there again! I realize a lot of you are 'return' couchsurfers but I lost the great house I used to have here (a covid casualty!). No frets! My sleeping surfaces have just changed a little bit since last time. The result is I have ONE very big bed that we SHARE. I wasn't sure about it at first but it's been amaazing actually (read the 'My Home' part for more details).

PLEASE ACKNOWLEDGE that you understand WE WILL SHARE A BED in your couchsurfing request. (I'm getting a lot of people who don't notice this)

I'm a fun-loving guy who is really social but I love to just explore around places in the daytime and I really love nature. I can give you advice on really cool places to visit and the best places to go for sunsets. I also know quite a bunch about ecstatic dance, meditation, sound healing and yoga. I'll be at most of the ecstatic dances!

As for night, there is an open mic once per week for poetry and music at Art in Chai cafe. There's also a monthly art festival that is really more of an evening thing.

As for stuff around walking street/bar street, I can show you a really cool bar with a secret passageway and they have amazing apple-cinnamon-rum drinks. As for other nightlife, only sometimes it's good so you kind of have to be in-the-know. Jungle parties (raves) are the most fun but they only happen about once or twice per week. I know a lot of the locals, both foreign and Thai. Some of them are even local djs! We're all very huggy, touchy/feely types. I'm happy to introduce you to a lot of them so you can be on the inside scoop!

I also have a fully equipped kitchen - an outdoor one - it's on my front balcony!

I want people to have fun, be silly, be comfortable and be themselves, feel as if they're at home. Also great to have a good chat and learn new perspectives.

I'm definitely more up for experiences rather than material things. Except, I should mention that I've been into a lot of beads and stones and jewelry lately lol

NOTE! If for some reason you can't stay we can still hang. I'd be happy to show you around, give advice and it would be fun to hang out.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I do both hosting and couchsurfing. I know how important it is to find a place to crash when you travel so I want to contribute if I can.

Interests

I love exploration. I used to want to be an astronaut exploring the final frontier, and now I travel a lot and am a "confluence hunter" (check out www.confluence.org).

I love skiing, traveling, hiking/trekking, scuba/snorkeling, of course travel and the outdoors. I love music, the arts, philosophy, especially thinking about why we're here, and why things are the way they are.

I studied both the earth and the heavens - in other words I was a major in geology and astronomy. With that I was able to work for NASA as a specialist in Mars and Venus, and for a geophysical company that sent me all around the world including near the North Pole! Then I became an adventure guide for China, Japan and Russia and I still do a lot of adventure stuff through a my website which is called The Best Quest. I've been to over 60 countries and have lived in the countries listed below.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I like more underground artists in hip hop and indie/alternative. I also like psychedelic rock, garage, glitch, funk, jazz rap and post punk. As for edm/electronic I'm quite open to a lot of genres even though I'm mostly focused on the vibe of the people at the event.

A few favorite artists: Tame Impala, Jack White, Jarv, J5, A Tribe Called Quest, Childish Gambino, JPEGMAFIA, Ty Segall, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, James Brown, the Stones, Beck, and King Gizzard.

A Tribe Called Quest, MF Doom, Madlib, Quasimoto, Kendrick Lamar, Outkast, J Dilla, Childish Gambino, Black Keys, The White Stripes, Alabama Shakes, Tame Impala, Alt-J, Mac Demarco, Ty Segall, Elliot Smith, Childish Gambino, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd.

I don't mind psy trance, techno or drum and bass, but mostly just for dancing, not for listening.

Movies: Psychological thrillers like Matrix, Inception, 12 Monkeys, Ex Machina and Donny Darko. Fantasy movies like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter but also weird Terry Gilliam movies. I'm into Coen Brothers movies. Love Black Mirror and similar types. I love comedy so I'm always on the look for something funny.

Favorite Books: Thoughtful sci fi (like Philip K Dick), adventure, some 20th century classics and non-fiction. I'm reading about the history of philosophy and the history of rock!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Tried to sneak into North Korea (almost successful), hung out in Hollywood with Charlie Sheen, hung out at John Young's Houston house - he is a man who has walked on the Moon, took actor Jessie Eisenberg to Siberia where we hitched a ride with a creepy Russian dude, snuck into the Chernobyl nuclear reactor region, visited the world's highest 'confluence point' in Tibet, was in a sinking boat on Lake Titicaca, Peru, drove across Russia in an old Soviet car and many more.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can tell you the origin of the mountains and the stars (I studied geology and astronomy).

I've studied the history of rock/rap/punk/electronic music. I love to teach about it and can hopefully teach you a lot about any specific era you are interested in. I still have the courses on my laptop!

As a sort of post-graduate thing (I snuck into classes in Berkeley) I was taught philosophy from world famous philosopher, John Searle. So I've studied the philosophy of the mind/existence/metaphysics quite a bit - simulation theories, Hindu Upanishads, DMT dimensions, etc. I'm totally into modern philosophers of the mind, David Chalmers, Roger Penrose, Donald Hoffman and Bernardo Kastrup. If you want, I can take you down the rabbit hole....

What I Can Share with Hosts

I don't have as much as I used to but we're in an amazing and beautiful location only a 10-minute walk to town. There's also a really great swimming pool near me, there are some delicious restaurants, including the best vegan ones and here's a beautiful view over rice fields.

Countries I’ve Lived In

China, Germany, Japan, Russian Federation, Taiwan, Thailand, United States
