Overview
About Me
Doug and Tom live at Rascal Ranch in southeast Arizona, and travel the United States in our RVs. We are members of Boondockers Welcome and have both hosted and been hosted thru that service. We recently learned of couchsurfing from other RV/couchsuring friends and we are checking it out both to offer RRanch for hosting, and to investigate options for upcoming plans to travel without our RVs, either nearby or abroad
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
A fellow couchsurfer and BW member (Boondockers Welcome) suggested the website for our planned, upcoming (2023 or later), travels abroad. As a current host for BW, it sounds thrilling to possibly be a host for a completely different set of people, many of whom may be traveling from other countries.
We also tremendously enjoy stretching the retirees (pensioners) dollar/euro where possible, and combining that with meeting new people in new countries... what a 'win-win' situation!
Interests
We travel in an RV away from our home in Arizona and visit the local sights in the United States. In many locations we have the opportunity to play pickleball. We greatly enjoy hiking to explore new vistas, and learning about the local history and attractions of the states we travel to - next year, this will include the countries we will be traveling.
We are interested in all cultures, and have booked a cruise to Europe for April, 2025
Music, Movies, and Books
Classical to Country, Rap to Opera. Raised in the 60's and 70's we gravitate toward the soft rock (and some hard) of that era, while also appreciating much of the alternative sounds of today. Books run a large gamut too, mostly fiction (Westerns, SciFi/Fantasy, Detective)... but also a fair smattering of satire (David Sedaris), biographies/histories and just plain 'science' books. We'll watch pretty much anything that catches our interest these days, and complain when what WE like doesn't get carried over... and while we both have similar tastes in shows, we also have some differences. Tom likes slapstick, I like horror. A few of our 'watch again' favorites were Sordid Lives, Witches of Eastwick, Miss Pettigrew, and Dan In Real Life... a few.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Doug - Built the house that Tom and I live in today, with my first husband. With only (mostly) our own four hands. It took over 18 months to complete and it is STILL a work in progress, but it has been standing sturdy for over 20 years and it looks as tho it could continue another 100 or so.
Tom - served over 12 years on three different submarines for the US Navy, traveling to many different ports and seeing many other cultures.
Teach, Learn, Share
We both are eager to broaden our experiences in the larger world. Tom is a retired Navy submariner, so has a much greater experience than Doug... who has spent his entire life in the southwest US, with extremely brief visits across the north and south borders of the United States... and once to Hawaii.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Our section of southeast Arizona is home to some spectacular scenery, hiking, a world reknowned cave system and some rich history of the United States. The flora and fauna of the southwest American deserts are unique.
As our guest(s) you can enjoy the quiet of our rural lifestyle, with perhaps some gardening if the season is right...and eating from our garden sometimes whether fresh or preserved. The incredible sunrises and sunsets with which we are frequently gifted with ...and of course our company and our reasonably competent cooking. We are very rural with no public transportation, but we can ferry you as time allows to the nearby areas or perhaps visit them with you. Rental vehicles are available in the nearby city of Sierra Vista.
