About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore the world as much as I can, meet great people, and eat delicious veg food along the way!

ABOUT ME

I'm a student at the University of Alberta in my fourth year of biological sciences with a minor in agriculture. I waitress during the summer and a bit during the school year (to save up for traveling!). I've been vegan for over a year now, and can't imagine ever going back. I'm really passionate about ethical, sustainable, organic, healthy, conscious food, and am starting to dip my feet into the raw food lifestyle. I love scuba diving, and eventually want to get involved with a marine conservation group so that I can work to help save our beautiful oceans. Really interested in learning about eco-friendly/off-the-grid housing and living, renewable energy, and organic farming! Overall, I'm an extremely friendly, genuine, down-to-earth person who loves connecting with people and sharing stories! :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: pretty much anything, but I love artsy indie flicks, Hayao Miyazaki, and Tarantino. And documentaries. Films that make you stop and think and question the world we live in - isn't that what art is?...

Music: lots of alt-rock, psychedelic rock, folk, indie, acoustic, a capella, blues, reggae, world music...I honestly love and listen to all music (yes, including country and rap), but this is what dominates my tastes. Madly in love with Bowie.

Books: popular fantasy series (LotR, SoIaF, HP), travel books, cook books, health food books, books on marine life or environmentalism or sustainable living, books that shock and surprise and entertain. Lover of all things reading.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

For one of my many dives in Utila, a small group of us went out to a sea mound in the middle of the ocean, which is basically a field of coral with blue all around you. There was so much beautiful life there, we saw barracudas and black durgons and a huge queen triggerfish, plus a few huge schools of colorful fish which swam all around us and made me feel like I was in a dream. We also had the rare opportunity of seeing a nurse shark there, who swam close to us and was so graceful and innocent. By far the best dive I've ever had.

I also did a night dive when in Utila, the best of which was when we turned off our lights and were plunged into complete blackness, like floating in emptiness, then you could start to see the bioluminescence...basically looks like little sparkly lights all around you, that moved and danced when you brushed your hand through the water. What a magical experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I know lots about delicious vegan food! More specifically, raw vegan desserts! I'm extremely passionate about great, healthy food and love passing it on. I really want to learn more about horticulture/organic farming, eco-friendly housing and off-the-grid living. Pretty much anything do-it-yourself, because I've never been the most "handy" person. Slowly trying to change that!

Life is not life without constant learning :)
