About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Make big fun.
Make connections with people and the natural world.
ABOUT ME
Whoretense: Small town boy turned big city closet case turned small town hippie turned big city faggot turned big city faggot husband. If you visit you'll also meet Holly, my love.
Holly: East Coast rural farm boy turned young gay man in a small city turned Radical Faerie and outdoor enthusiast in a West Coast urban oasis turned gardener and house husband. And I'm Canadian, eh!
We used to have an elderly dog and cat as pets but, alas, they are no longer with us.
PHILOSOPHY
Whoretense: Find the good in people, no matter how impossible it seems. Try to appreciate the present. Practice gratitude. Make art.
Holly: I believe in living simply and helping to make the world a better place.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Casting a wide net seems to help.
We have been hosts to a wide variety of couchsurfing guests and have been hosted on our trips to California. We plan to do more traveling and look forward to more couchsurfing hospitality.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Overall we've had a very positive experience hosting Couchsurfers, and as guests. Our guests and hosts have been interesting, charming, and low-maintenance, and have shared stories of their lives and their travels with us. We have had a few surfers who've made arrangements to stay here and didn't show up or contact us, but those are the only negative experiences we've had.
Interests
Whoretense: Creating most anything, decorating artcars, Barbie art, outfits, gardens... also music, reading, film, long strolls, short hikes, anything above with my husband Holly (of course!). Compressed air, motorized anything, digital controls, origami, wood working, coloring, ice cream, bats, ... I could go on.
Holly: I enjoy the outdoors; cycling, hiking, backpacking, camping, kayaking, etc. I'm very interested in gardening, growing my own food, and wild foraging. Lately I've been cooking more meals from scratch and preserving food. I"m also into fibrecraft (crocheting, knitting, spinning, weaving with wild fibres). I love puzzles and math, travel (and hearing your travel stories), animals (especially cats), colourful clothes and costumes, and Radical Faerie gatherings.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Whoretense: Every day is amazing, really it is. Cherry trees are amazing. Havana was amazing. Riding a camel was amazing. Care giving for my partner during a stem cell transplant, well that was a lot of things, including amazing. Once I scared a small child with a home-made pneumatic prop skeleton. I drove a radio controlled deer in a parade. I got arrested. I rescued a puppy. I set off a fire alarm on a state ferry and became a security risk. I tortured a doll. I designed a waterfall. I drank to much. I generated power from the sun. I wrote a screen play. I made a call from a smart phone. I joined Couchsurfing. I saw Eliot Smith on stage. I touched a starfish. I overcame my inability to brag...
Holly: The most exciting thing I've done is bungee jumping. The thing I'm most proud of is coming out in a time and place that was not very friendly toward homosexuality.
Teach, Learn, Share
Whoretense: Go with your strengths. Keep your tires inflated. Watch out for pedestrians, bicycles, sodium. Make it better for someone. Create something beautiful. Learn something new every so often. I'm learning to sew, and am happy to share my knowledge of sewing and art.
You think everything stays the same, but that's only because your attention span is almost as short as mine. It doesn't stay the same. Keep the change.
Holly: I know a fair bit about Math, gardening, and fibrecraft, and am happy to share what I know. I really enjoy gardening, cooking, foraging, and outdoor adventures with others.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Stories, conversation, laughter, a bottle of wine.
(FYI... for our future guests in Seattle, more notice is good; lately our guest room has been unavailable to people hoping to show up the next day).
