PHILOSOPHY

I tend to be pragmatic. One can have (strong) ideas how things should work, but if reality takes another turn, I feel it is better to adapt to the new situation than to stick to the old.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My main interest is to be in contact with other people and learn and observe different customs and cultures from all over the world. And at the same time offering people a comfortable sleeping address when they are in Amsterdam, and hope of course for the reverse when I am around.

I can help to have you a good time in Amsterdam. I have a map and a lonely planet for example, but I will not do some touristic tours with you. I always try however to spend an evening together with my couch surfer.

For me couch surfing is not something like a free hostel, full pension. I like to be in contact with my surfers, and appreciate it if my guest is not only taking. If you send me a couch surf request, please add the reason what brings you to Amsterdam. General requests like (oh, I just subscribed, and now I REALLY need a place because I do not have any more money and never thought I had to plan this trip) are not very inspiring to me.

What annoys me are people who requested a couch do not show up without any notice. As this happened to me way too often, I will leave a neutral reference on your profile mentioning this if you will not show up at my couch. I do this for the following reasons:
1. You deprived another couch surfer a couch;
2. I have to plan a lot around couch surfing, and I do not like it if this effort was in vain;
3. I find it rude, selfish and inconsiderate behavior, and destroying the spirit of couch surfing.
