ABOUT ME

I just recently got back to the U.S. after living for about 10 months in Morocco and am planning to move to Ann Arbor in the Fall for school. Currently I am loving the Memphis hot, the cool dripping awnings, the dive bars, the buses.

PHILOSOPHY

a work in progress....

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For starters, I love the idea of a project like this that helps facilitate connections between people coming from different cultures and speaking different languages, but that serves a practical purpose at the same time. Right now I'm in a phase were I'm definitely more mobile so I will probably be doing a fair amount of surfing, but I hope to settle down in the future. Either way though, surfing or hosting, it seems like you are getting the most important part of the traveling experience, the meeting new people, forming connections, etc.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I once crashed with my three housemates at a photography student's apartment in Paris for about four days. Pretty much everything about the experience was ideal. We hung out with her during the day, made dinner together in the evening, and went out with a group of her friends at night. Otherwise it was very chill. She has promised to come visit us at our house, but were still waiting for her to follow through.

Interests

Virtually anything related to music in terms of listening, in terms of playing mostly jazz and folk. Languages in general and especially Arabic, both MSA and Darija. Teaching, as in learning how to teach, not a specific subject but more generally. Cooking, as well and as frequently as possible. History, especially contemporary and anything dealing with decolonization and the natural world.

The view of the Valero factory from MLK park.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can play most any instrument that has strings and that you can play with your hands (guitar, banjo, lap-steel, bass, mandolin, uke, etc., and I love any kind of musical exchange.

I cook well enough that I could definitely show someone some interesting dishes and am always interested in learning new ones as well.

Generally, I am pretty into talking about the fine points of my own culture and of other peoples, and I feel like I have got a fair number of observations to share,

Also, I'm interested in learning pretty much any language I come across, but I would only really feel comfortable teaching English.
