About Me

CURRENT MISSION

finish school and get a job (see below)

ABOUT ME

I'm a graduate student at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This is my last semester and I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to do a two-course independent study abroad on Americans as second-language learners and Twin Towns and Sister Cities. My program allows me to travel at my discretion as long as I turn in a couple of papers each week. For the most part I will be visiting friends who are currently playing professional basketball in Europe. However, I am using this trip also as an opportunity to create a career for myself helping players, like many of my friends, find jobs playing basketball around the world. I have already visited friends in Iceland, France, Cyprus, Israel and Austria but in order to succeed in my hoops endeavors, I must travel to places where I don't have a friend and free couch to sleep on. As a student, I'm on a very tight budget and couch surfing would be a great way to extend my trip as well as my educational and occupational goals. In short, I'm just a guy living a dream.

PHILOSOPHY

God is good!
"You can do it, if you put your mind to it." -My 3rd grade teacher.
"Do your best and forget the rest." - P90X home workout program
"Let it ride." -Travis Holcomb-Faye

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Since I started traveling a month and a half ago, I have met so many incredible people along the way. Whether it was a friend of a friend or someone I just happened upon in the airport or on the bus, my trip has been so much better because of the strangers who have crossed my path. I only found out about couch surfing a couple of weeks ago, but I see couch surfing as a way for me to meet great new people all over the world. In return, I intend to open up my couch to travelers all over the world. I've been blessed by the generosity of others and I hope to return the favor and expand the couch surfing community.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Five years ago, I took a break from my undergraduate education and asked a friend of mine playing his first year of professional basketball in Quimper, France if I could come stay with him for a few months to learn French. He offered me a bed in the room with his 9-month old son and it turned out to be one of the greatest experiences of my life.
My professor let me spend the summer before last in his extra bedroom in exchange for housesitting for him and his wife while they went on vacation.
I've road tripped through the midwest and stayed with friends that I used to go to school with.
Since February, I've slept on my friends' couches in Reykjavik and Akureyri, Iceland, Nicosia, Cyprus, Haifa, Israel, Klagenfurt, Austria and Gravelines, France.
I've been a guest in many homes and I hope to come to a bed, couch or floor near you soon.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like all movies except I can't handle too much sci-fi. I will listen to about any music but my favorite is rap - Lil' Wayne, 2pac.
I read my books for school and whatever comes along my way. Currently reading The Philosopher and the Wolf by Mark Rowlands.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I woke up one day and decided to run a marathon by myself without training. I finished in about 7 hours, but I was pretty sore for about a week.

Teach, Learn, Share

A lot of my education was devoted to learning languages and unfortunately I've had very little opportunity to ever use my it outside of the classroom. This trip has already given me the opportunity to do so. While I struggle to form sentences sometimes I hope to chance to keep doing so. I'm not sure how much I can teach you if there's anything you want to know, feel free to ask.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Jordan, Mexico, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In
