ABOUT ME

I'm an Afrikaans South African currently teaching English in South Korea. If it was possible to turn 'beach bum' into a respectable profession, I would have, but alas. Small things that I like and appreciate get me very excited. I am relaxed and easygoing. I love beauty, whether it be in nature, in words or in people. I am always trying to broaden my horizons and to get as much out of life as I can.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I would have liked to host couch surfers, but unfortunately at the moment my living arrangements don't allow that. I am however interested in meeting different people from around the world. I also hope to meet some new, interesting people in my travels and experience parts of countries that normal tourists don't normally get to experience.

Interests

I love books, language, writing and everything related to publishing. I love nature, learning new things and seeing new places. I'm currently learning survival Korean, how to play the guitar and I'm taking courses in creative writing. In the near future I hope to do my open water diving certification, hopefully in some beautiful and exotic location. Forming meaningful connections with people is very important to me.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love books! Some of my favourites English books include The Perks of being a Wallflower, The Kiterunner, To Kill a Mockingbird, 1984, The Shadow of the Wind, Middlesex, Eat Pray Love, The Millennium Trilogy, The Shack and The Four Agreements. I don't know all that much about poetry, but I adore ee cummings.

I love the music of Muse, Imogen Heap, Regina Spektor, Kings of Leon, Paolo Nutini, Ingrid Michaelson, Brandi Carlile, Lily Allen and Queen.

Avatar, Slumdog Millionaire, Das Experiment, The Hours, Into the Wild, Mamma Mia and Under the Tuscan Sun are some of my favourite movies.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moving to Korea, all by myself, is definitely the most amazing thing I've ever done. Doing this has brought many other amazing experiences, like seeing Muse live in concert, going to China and climbing the Great Wall and climbing Daecheongbong, the second highest mountain peak in Korea, in a day. Other amazing experience include going to the National Gallery in London and the Louvre in Paris. My lifetime has not been very long yet, so I hope to still add many things to this list.
