Overview
About Me
I'm known to be a Full-Time Community Activist, Grandmother, Elder, Teacher, Human & Environmental Rights Defender, and Friend of Humanity.
My life’s work is healing and the prevention of the destruction of human and ecosystem health using citizen action, ancestral teachings and education as key tools... and it all has to be fun! ... at least most of the time.
I have hosted many people but have rarely couchsurfed. My home for the past 16 years or so, has been a place where people come for healing, strategies for mobilizing for needed change get worked out and good memories are made for life. People come by for teachings, ceremony, networking and a place to find peace.
I am dedicated to a Good Life.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I, along with 3 young people from Canada, am going to actively participate in the UN COY11 and COP21 activities. *I know that I need to be there* and that I need to ally myself with the best kindred spirits and make the most of this visit.
I welcome folks who are new to activism and want to do more, those who want to "up their game" (as I do), and those who want to quietly support those of us who are dedicated to doing the work that needs to be done to assure our survival as a species and freedoms as humanity.
Should I say more? Probably... but by now you've got the idea that I am not shy to speak opinions, and very interested in learning and adapting to new ways whenever needed. Couchsurfing seems perfect at this time - I can translate my hosting skills to being a good guest, and accomplish waaaay more than if I was in an impersonal hotel without understanding folks to relate to.
You can find out lots more about me on my blog page (start here 'Who is Willi Nolan' http://willinolanspeaks.com/shares/who-is-willi-nolan-biography/) and Facebook posts will be revealing too (https://www.facebook.com/willi.nolan)
Interests
* Cooking - macrobiotic, vegan, vegetarian, dumpster, wild & organic meats, cookies, banana bread, lusginign (Mi'kmaq-style frybread)
* Gardening - I'm learning permaculture and food foraging
Spirituality - I love to integrate ceremonies into my life
* Indigenous Cultural Practices - I am born of Mi'kmaki (Micmac lands), grew up in Toronto where kind Elders and Teachers showed me the Sacred ancestral ways, nurtured me and my gifts; this is where I began earning many teachings, which I translate into my activist work.
Decades later, I am an Elder-Grandmother, and I embrace my responsibility to share what I have received. Respect and Protection for Mother Earth, our Youth and the coming generations are Sacred responsibilities to me.
* Music - I am a professional vocalist. These days jazz is a passion, but I can still get into the rock, blues and pop when the times are right.
* Meditation - I use a number of techniques. Meditation is a really effective practice for me for staying centered and whole, even when times are chaotic or difficult. I still need reminders.... I am very much welcoming those who meditate into my life these days.
* Activism - I am a career activist and hard to bullshit, and I am always seeking kindred spirits.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've stayed an activist for the last 41 years... amazing, eh?
Here's a little online about it [ or Google me :-P ] ...

I helped stop fracking in New Brunswick and am now lead Plaintiff in a lawsuit against the federal and provincial governments and Texas-based SWN fossil fuels fracking company... very proud and grateful to be part of this historic activism! And... since all that, we have a moratorium.
Check out some recent activity here... http://willinolanspeaks.com/shares/peoples-lawsuit-related-media-coverage/
I helped decommission a nuclear power plant - Gentilly-2, sister of Point Lepreau in New Brunswick, Canada... Lepreau is next! Nuclear energy is NOT an answer to mitigating Climate Change.

Teach, Learn, Share
I love to work with youth and community leaders and active communities.
Many are interested in my take on the 2013 New Brunswick Shale Gas Rebellion (https://www.popularresistance.org/the-glorious-new-brunswick-shale-gas-rebellion-of-2013/) and in how we managed to launch a lawsuit against the frackers and keep it going (peopleslawsuit.com and most recent http://willinolanspeaks.com/shares/peoples-lawsuit-related-media-coverage/)
I love to debunk myths about nuclear power

What I Can Share with Hosts
I am a Grandmother and have home making skills that help make a home happy and healthy, ordinary stuff like cooking, dishes, sewing and tidying, but also home management, meditation, ceremony, storytelling, spiritual discourse and healing.
Check out some of my cooking here -
I also like to have fun... I dance and sing almost daily, and love to celebrate every good thing that I become aware of!
As a couchsurfing guest and world citizen, I am interested in leaving the place better than I found it. It's my intention that my presence be a benefit to folks kind enough to host our little group carrying a big mission for our Peoples.
