Hi, my name is Liam and I'm working as a software developer for a AR/VR startup in Japan this summer! I just graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a bachelor's in math and I'll be starting a master's in math at Oxford University in the UK this fall! Besides math, I'm passionate about foreign languages. I have been told that I speak pretty decent French and can get by in Spanish, German, Turkish, and Japanese. On top of language I also love classic literature! I often daydream of locking myself up in a cabin in the woods and doing nothing but reading the classics.
Outside academia, I love to play piano (mostly Beethoven and Chopin) and guitar (mostly folk and pop), and I aspire to be able to sing passably, though I'm not sure this will ever come to pass. I am also a very active person! I was a four-year member of the Varsity Heavyweight crew at MIT, and in high school I played basketball and American football. I love cardio sports such as running, road biking and hiking (even multi-day backpacking) as well as more adventurous sports such as skiing and surfing.

I'm on couchsurfing because I want to make friends when I travel, not just stay at a hotel by myself. I hope that my hosts might one day visit me wherever I am to repay the favor.
