About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To spice up my experiences

ABOUT ME

Maybe not the best sentence to start a profile on the couchsurfing website: I'm not the biggest globetrotter !!!
But I like making smaller trips, mainly in Europe.
As I travel most of the time on my own, I prefer going to cities but one day i'll planning a big trip.
However, Some renovations at my own place had me keep those plans locked for a couple more years ! :-)

But more about myself:

I live on my own in a small town close to Ypres, called Voormezele. OK, it's not like Now York, London or Tokyo, but if you wanne experience the real Belgian Countryside, you're more than welcome.
for more details, read 'my home'.

I work at a local government were I have to organise some cultural and mainly kid-friendly activities. Before ly studies social work I had myself a degree as a chef, i'm a trained chocolate maker ( how Belgian can you be?!) and i had art school for 2 years.
So I have a lot of interest.

There is only one thing i can't find and that's a sports that suits me! If you host me or I'll host you, be free to introduce me to your favorite sport!

I would descibe myself as social and in for a good laugh, but i'm not the biggest mouth of the company.

PHILOSOPHY

A perfect mix of creativity, history, knowledge and fun.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

As I travel mostly on my own, I hate it to spend the evening in a hotelroom with a Heineken (once you've been in Belgium you never call Heineken a beer again). Hostels are a good alternative but as a lot of people stay there in group, it's not the best way to meet people.
That's why I tried Couchsurfing. As anything in life, the first time was quiet scary ;-) but I stayed at a wonderfull host in the centre of Dublin. We actually stay in touch after more than 10 years.

After my stay in Dublin, I had some CS- experiences in London, Paris, Brighton and Liverpool.

After my stay i Dublin, I became a host myself and to be honest: I never had a bed experience!
Due to the renovation of my home I wasn't able to host for a couple of years but now i'm back on track!

Once I had a guest from Ireland who made a trip from Ireland to India by motorbike and stayed in the Ypres Area, just to taste the Westvleteren Triple. It's called the best beer in the word.
He made this vlog about his trip. (in the video it's my pre-renovated home!!) :-)

I'm also interested in photography, but i realy want learn more about it.

If you are able to host me: I would be very pleased if you can advice me some great musea ( maybe the small, less known one)
Or show me some pubs, venues, ....

Music, Movies, and Books

I really like the singer-songwriters stuff
(jack Johnson, Damian Rice, Badly Drawn Boy...) and Britpop (Oasis, Noel Gallagher's high flying birds, Blur, The Verve, Beatles, Arctic Monkeys of course, ...)

My favourite artist are Edward Hopper, Banksy, Space invader, ....and streetart in general.
I like some Belgian artists as well like ROA, Luc Tuymans, Rinus van de Velde and Stephan Vanfleteren. I'll get you to know them.

I'm not a real movie-fan but Trainspotting and Seven are all time classics. I do prefer series like Lupin, The crown, Peaky Blinders and my all time favorite: The Fall! (I made a lot of my friends in love with the show)
I Love (British) comedy as well: Blackadder, the office, Miranda , Absolutely Fabulous, Coupling and Monty Python. And I have to admit: I've seen all the series of Friends like a Zillion times.

I like to read as well. My favorite writer is Robert Galbraith. (Yes, I know it's her) :-)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've seen New York City in stormy weather which was pretty amazing.
I went to a comedy show for a very select audience in the centre of Dublin (and we got free ice cream!)
I tasted the oyster beer (I can still taste it)
I've learned that It's not safe to fall asleep on the beach in Brighton without sunblock in 30 degrees. (auch)

I hope I can fill in more things in the future ;-)
