Overview
About Me
I am an artist currently living in Atlanta - creator, connector, community catalyzer.
I make my living as an artist/sculptor (www.WilliamMasseyArt.com), teacher (glass-blowing, sculpture, drawing, paint), and creative pioneer - basically I bring art to places where there is no art, and uplift people through hands-on creative activity. I go into cancer centers, homeless shelters, nursing homes, etc and encourage the illumination of minds through creativity. I help people manage and overcome discomfort, anguish, or isolation with art.
In relation to CouchSurfing, I love new people and new cultures. I try to listen more than I speak. Encourage more than I scrutinize. Trust more than I doubt. I clean up after myself. I am respectful, robust, passionate, honest, quiet, contemplative and free. I am one of those strange, borderline introverts who loves to meet other people. I find a way to relate to any and every one, and I relentlessly pursue my passions of creating art, traveling, seeking out new experiences, meeting new people, and loving everyone as best I possibly can.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I don't always have the schedule to host but when I can, I will!
When surfing, all I try to do is graciously and positively contribute to the environment that I am being welcomed into.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
My first was a phenomenal experience surfing in Europe. I met some beautiful people who I still speak with on a regular basis and consider some of my best friends. And now that I am back in the states, CS has helped me discover aspects of the home front that I never knew existed. Took a solo, 2,200mi roadtrip this past summer and couchsurfed a majority of the way.
Interests
I don't mess around, when I have an idea, I execute. My interest is my job. My job is to bring the whimsy of discovery into existence through art. Sometimes it comes as a huge public sculpture, sometimes it's creative workshops that welcome the homeless, businessmen, soccer-moms, kids, veterans, hipsters, prostitutes, pastors, older adults, cancer patients, and normal people all working TOGETHER. And the best part is, when it's done right, no one pays attention to any of the labels I mentioned above, people just regard each other as people, let down their guard, and build relationship. I guess my job is to build relationship creatively.
Other interests include but are not limited to: my family, walks with my dog, chess, climbing, craft beer, drumming, unicycling, reading, hammocking, camping, music, juggling, exercising, yoga, breathing, dreaming, living and thinking.
