About Me

My girlfriend Ali and I are new world travelers looking to get out and see new cultures, taste new foods, and have great adventures while sharing some of our culture with you!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have quite a few friends who have both hosted and been hosted through Couchsurfing, and it seems like a really amazing way to not only find a safe, comfortable place to stay, but also meet interesting new people.

Interests

I enjoy doing pretty much anything outdoors, especially being in the water on scuba. I've been a professional diver (through PADI) for a few years now, and really love getting the chance to connect with the underwater environment in such a personal manner. I also enjoy doing standup comedy on occasion, and definitely appreciate meeting people with a good sense of humor.

Music, Movies, and Books

I pretty much enjoy all music aside from American country and some pop, but it tends to surprise people when I say that my favorite kind of music (at the moment) is heavy metal, especially bands like Opeth and Mastodon.
In terms of movies, I like well-written dark comedies and most scifi. My all time favorite movie is most likely Guillermo del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth."
I read constantly, and am currently bouncing between fantasy books like The Wheel of Time series, and stranger metafiction things like Thomas Pynchon. In all honesty I tend to like reading almost anything I can find!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was able to work at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta over the last summer as a diver, and got the opportunity to swim with their four whale sharks on an almost daily basis. Nothing really drives home the idea of how huge those things are (and how quiet) until they run you over when you're cleaning an exhibit!

Teach, Learn, Share

Did you know that the Moray Eel has a second set of pharyngeal jaws behind its first pair? They shoot out like something out of the movie Alien!
