About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Give people a great place to stay here in North Charleston..and sharing ideas and experiences with everyone we meet. Sorry about the low response rate....we had 2 kids and kind of dropped off the radar (and didn't change our couch status). However, we want to jump back in now.

ABOUT ME

We just moved to Charleston about 5 months ago. We were living in Greenville for the previous 6 years. I am an education professor at College of Charleston. We have two children, Victoria and Liam.

My wife and I moved to South Carolina from Costa Rica about 7 years ago. I am originally from the U.S., and Raquel is from Costa Rica. We love hosting people from around the world. We were able to make a lot of amazing friendships through couchsurfing in Costa Rica, Europe, and throughout North America. We are a very laid back couple. We love to travel, host, and be involved in the couchsurfing community in any way we can.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have hosted many people in Costa Rica, and are currently hosting in Charleston, SC. We also like to meet up with people in the different cities where we travel.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Our craziest couchsurfing experience was with a couple from France/Slovakia. They ended up staying in our house about two weeks after their passports and their luggage was stolen at the beach. However, they were an amazing couple. They ended up staying at our house one weekend and watched our dog while we went to the beach. By the end of the experience, they felt like family. We also surfed with a guy in Panama from France, and then he came back and surfed with us with three of his friends at our house in Costa Rica. We are hoping we can meet up again for a third couchsurfing experience soon.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love anything by Upton Sinclair, John Steinbeck, or Paulo Coelho. I am currently trying to read Brothers Karamazov..long but great. I am a huge U2 fan, and I tend to like a lot of British/European music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Visited the San Blas Islands in Panama with my wife. Got to be 15 feet from stage at a U2 concert in 2005. Taught one amazing summer in Thailand.

Teach, Learn, Share

My wife is a native Spanish speaker- so, if you are looking to learn Spanish; she can also speak Portuguese. This is a great place to come. I love discussing history, politics, and literature.
