About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel the world

ABOUT ME

After 6 years in the Army in the early 1980's, I got bored defending the West against those Russians who never seemed to come. I went back to college, got a degree as a proffesional tourist (or something like that) and after working a couple of months in London for a Japanese incoming touroperator I found a job with American tours International and spent the nineties in the good ol' US of A and Canada. Seen it all, bought all the T-shirts and so on.

In 2001 I started to work for my current employer as a budriver to take Belgian and occasionally international tourists all over the European continent.

In 2006 I conceived the plan to work six months of the year, from April till October and travel the other six months.

In 2007 I did a trial run of 3 months, visiting Thailand, Laos, China's Yunnan province, Vietnam and Cambodia.

I had to rush trough so many of the places that I decided to do it all over in more detail in 2008-2009.

In 2009-2010 I visited Malaysia, starting in Bangkok, going trough Southern Thailand to The Peninsula, crossing to Sumatra, Indonesia, then on to Java, Borneo and so back to Malaysia's Sarawak and Sandakan, possibly passing trough Brunei on the way. Then flying to Bangkok or Phnom Penn, depending on the cheapest flight, going on trough Cambodia and possibly Vietnam.

In 2010-2011 I visited the eastern chain of Indonesian islands from Bali to Lombok with a short stop on the Gili Islands, then on a boat around the norht cost of Sumbawa, then by pulbic transportation across Flores, by Pelni Ship to Pulau Alor, onother Pelni ship to Kupang in West Timur; then a plane to Sorong and a boat to Raja Ampat, back to Sorong and another boat to the paradisical Banda Islands where I got an ear infection and had to cut my trip short and take yet another Pelni ship to Ambon, then after seeing a good doctor on a plane to Sulawesi where I visited Torajaland and the shipbuilders of Biru. After this I flew to Bangkok to meet up with my roommate and his fiancée and together we visited southern Easan in Thailand and went by way of Along Veng into Cambodia where I spent most of february and march.

For the year 2011-2012 I plan to travel overland from Mumbai to Aurangabad, the Ellora hmedabad, Diu, Gir National Park, Bhuj, then on to Mt Abu in Rajastan where I plan to visit Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner and the temple of Deshnok, Jaipur, and Ranthammbore National park, then Agra in Uttar Pradesh, on to Varanasi where I will be generously hosted by Mr Tarun Rai, from there to the West Bengal hills an Darjeeling, possibly Sikkum and finally on to Nepal, I hope to do a trekking there and hopefully the Nepali-Tibet border will be opened for overland travel by Westerners by then so I can get on to Lhasa and take the new technological marvel the train to Golmuc andChengdu, from there to Guyiang, Guilin and Yamgshuo then on to Nanning, Hanoi, Hue, Saigon to meet up with my roommate and his wife in Phnom Penn to spend some leasure time in Cambodia and Thailand before getting back to Belgium and a working life on March 29.

In 2012-2013 I would like to travel overland from Addis Abbeba to South Africa, After that South America and New Zealand - Australia.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I would like to couch surf, occasionally in Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia and other Asian coutries in order to get to know local people. I would like to couchsurf a whole lot next year in Australia, in order to keep my travel budget balanced. I would also like to host the people I meet in Belgium if they decide to come over here. So far only one family from Thailand made it all the way here, we are not on the Belgian tourist trail, but when either I or my roommate are home, evrybody is welcome to enjoy our hospitality and explore this partof Belgium.
