About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I study mathematics. I graduate from college in december. Then I want to go on a six month bike trip and get a well paying job.

ABOUT ME

I'm a slow talker, try to stay as relaxed, aware and open as possible. I will look you in the eye when talking to you. I'm social. Known to be humorous at times, but also very comfortable with silence.

I'm becoming more involved in out of doors pursuits - made my first summit (Mount Adams) september 4-5th 2010, hoping to make this a year of hiking & climbing

I like reading quite a bit, although I'm also interested in more athletic pursuits - climbing, bicycling, ultimate frisbee. Trying to get more into endurance sports e.g. long distance running and swimming, but the going is slow.

PHILOSOPHY

Care less what I do so long as I do it very well. Excellence is the only reward worth having, dedication the only path to excellence.

I'm trying to find a functional, practical role in society. Preferably of a technical nature and in the natural sciences.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've couchsurfed once which went pretty alright, and would now like to host. I've got a pretty good thing going on in Portland, and I like to share.

I've even got an extra bike for couchsurfers to borrow.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Once, in Germany. It was good way to travel in a foreign country without feeling like such a stranger-- although I was a little immature and had a hard time with it.

Interests

Cooking, literature set in a certain era of strict cultural norms and pleasurable turns of phrase. Would say Cyrano di Bergerac ranks somewhere near the top. Jean Rheese's Wide Sargasso Sea is also very good. I do well with structure and direction. My least happiest moments have been over the summer, unemployed. My happiest were probably when i was playing ultimate frisbee, getting up every morning at six to eat omelets & potatoes with my housemates, working three hours every morning before my first class, and making it out of town every weekend.
