ABOUT ME
Outgoing, take it easy person. Loves backpacking, trekking, climbing mountains (not technical climb though) and of course scuba dive. Been too many places.. stay in all sorts of places from airports, to a bench in a park to some doggy dark hostel just because it is cheap.. many stories to tell if you hit me on right note. Haha!
Loves meeting people and different culture. If you need any tips on traveling and scuba dive, feel free to hit me up. :)
PHILOSOPHY
When your life is in the pits, someone will come up and offer you a simple help that lift you up out of the pits. So never underestimate the enormous impact your simple gesture can possibility do to that someone.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm pretty new to this site. I only got to know this site through a friend who is not even a backpacker! Anyway, been backpacking for donkey years with loads of experience and stories to tell. So just hit me up and I'll do my best to help. :)
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I arrive in Dalyan, Turkey in the evening at the bus station. Looking around, no taxi or whatever transport to town! I check with one of the bus driver. After trying to explain my situation with body and sign language. Someone offered to give me a ride to town!
So you think my ordeal is over? Think again. Arriving in town, it's already dark and drizzling. Having the Lonely Planet guidebook in hand and carrying my big backpack, I went in search of a cheap accommodation. Strange.. either the accommodation listed in LP is not there or they are close. Eventually I found one but it is locked. I knew it is open because it has lights turned on.I tried knocking and ringing to bell but no one answers. Desperate, I went wandering around the only main street hoping to find a decent accommodation. The last thing I want is to stay out in the street in the rain! That when I realize that there is hardly anyone in the streets! Where have all the people gone? It seems like I am in a ghost town!
Then a middle age man on a bicycle with an umbrella past me by. He stopped. Turned around. And come up to me. He speaks English! (though not that good but that's good enuff). I told him my situation. He brought me to the accommodation I found earlier and try to look for the occupants. But still no one answers. He explains that the occupants have gone for a family function. He offered to bring me around to find accommodation. Unfortunately all are closed. That's when he told me that I have come during the OFF-season. There are hardly any tourist during this period and many accommodation are closed for the season.
Seeing that I have no where to stay. He offered to let me stay at his place. It is small place, and guess what. I am offered to sleep in a COUCH! Don't get me wrong.. I don't mind sleeping on the floor as long as there is a shelter from the rain. He even offered me 2 fishes and rice which seems fitted for a King. I am starving!
Now this is what I call a real, on-the-fly Couch-surfing experience! =D
