About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Figuring out how to tame the travel itch long enough to start my career...

ABOUT ME

I'm a positive person, always looking for the best in every situation. I like a challenge, and can be quite adventurous at times. I'm a bit of a nerd, love Wikipedia, and love having a decent debate on stuff. I'm confident and outgoing, sometimes a bit too much so, and tend to say what I think. I love to research things and plan what I'm going to do, but also very happy to be spontaneous and just grab an opportunity.

I've just been living in Japan for about a year, had a wonderful time there after some initial difficult patches of settling in. Then I spent a terrific 5.5 months travelling back to Australia, crossing 3 continents. I had the most amazing CS experiences both hosting in Japan and then surfing everywhere else.

I'm a non-smoker, LOVE pets, and not much of a party animal... I'm not a vegetarian, though I'm always happy to eat vegetarian meals. I have no tough dietary requirements.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Welcomed a few travelers to Osaka while I lived there, and tried to provide a lot of advice online in groups and via email.

I've just spent 5.5 months backpacking across Asia, Europe and North Africa, CSing most of the way. I had some amazing experiences both with individuals and at some CS group gatherings. I couldn't picture my trip now without CS.

I'm also spreading the word of CS with people I meet as I travel, if they're the cool, relaxed, interesting sort of people I like to meet that is...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first experience to having a complete stranger stay at my place was when I read a newspaper article about a dutchman with a website 'letmestayforaday.com'. Ramon's goal was to travel the world without paying for accommodation, staying with locals all over.

He stayed at my house for a number of days, and I showed him all around Perth, driving him to various sights and going out on the trains. Really enjoyed the experience, and got me thinking about the possibilities of world travelling on a budget!

My couch has been used by many friends, and friends of friends, and I love to extend the true Aussie hospitality.

I have surfed in:
Japan
China
Russia
Finland
Estonia
Latvia
Poland
Slovakia
Hungary
Austria
Croatia
Bosnia & Hercegovina
Spain
Portugal
Morocco

I absolutely love CS and have had such wonderful experiences so far. It gives you a totally different travel experience and allows me to feel closer to the culture of whichever country I´m in. Plus it has helped to fill out my travelling recipe book!

Interests

Volleyball, cooking, scuba diving, mosaics, going to the beach, wine tasting, playing pool, looking at the stars and thinking I should learn more about them, having a few beers at the pub (I'm a pub girl over a club girl).

When I'm travelling I love to see impressive natural sights rather than cityscapes. I'm spoilt by incredible weather and beautiful beaches in my hometown, but sights of mountains, lakes, waterfalls, jungles, vast plains - they take my breath away. Definitely more an outdoors than an indoors person.

I enjoy cooking, so any place I stay in for a little while I would be keen to learn some local dishes. Always happy to help in the kitchen or prepare a meal for my hosts. I've become more brave in what I will try , recent foods include raw horse meat, whale, and blowfish sperm sac!!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hiking the Great Wall of China

Getting licked by a giant panda

Eating: scorpion, blowfish sperm sac, raw horse meat, whale (SORRY!!!)

Walking through Auschwitz

Taking a camel trek into the sand dunes of Sahara desert and sleeping in a Berber camp in Morocco, then spending the night playing drums with the berbers and singing songs - including Waltzing Matilda

Teach, Learn, Share

Now that I'm back home, I take delight in helping travellers make the most of their time in WA. I know my home state very well and am passionate about ensuring tourists go away loving Perth and telling everyone else they meet elsewhere how they found a small piece of Paradise here.
