Overview
About Me
I just finished my PhD in Arctic permafrost soil ecology at San Diego State University and I am wanderlusting and wandering. I plan on spending the next month solo hiking the GR10 trail in the French Pyrenees.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I initially joined CS in 2011 while rambling across Scotland, Ireland and France. It was a nice middle-ground between the hostel party scene and the solitude of solo camping.
I eventually want to go on another big trip through Patagonia, Southeast Asia or Eastern Europe. Until then I find it pretty fun to explore places near me.
Interests
I like to do all sorts of stuff. I bicycle pretty much every day, even in the rain. Sometimes I go on long 2-3 day touring / camping trips with my bicycle. I also like to rock climb and swim. I snowboarded for the first time recently and like it a lot.
I like seeing movies in the theater.
I can play guitar and piano and a little bit of ukulele.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I spent 5 days at a research field site in the foothills of the Brooks Range in Alaska. I was dropped off and then pick up by a little airplane on a dirt runway.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm a microbial ecologist and I know technical science stuff that is hard to relate to the real world. But I can talk for ages about it!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can make some chocolate chip cookies if you have an oven. Deal?
