ABOUT ME

I work on being outgoing and creative. I'm interested in literature, writing, sports, storytelling, and music.

I write many songs and am a hack guitarist. I love gospel, soul, classic country, bluegrass, and blues music but can listen to the best of almost any genre, except that stuff where they scream a lot. Ha ha. I also write fiction and poetry and think one of the best ways to know the world is through stories. Favorite writers? Dostovevsky, Graham Greene, Joseph Conrad, Michael Ondattje, Hemingway, Cormac McCarthy, Thomas McGuine, Marge Percy (poet), Richard Hugo. . .too many to list.

I've been lucky to meet people from all over the world, and the last few years I've met dozens of great people from China and Asia and it's really taught me a lot, as I've been able to teach them and also be taught a lot!

I'm a person of manners, as I was raised in a farm family where we learned how to treat people with respect, and each other. I'm a Christian, who's fallen and got back up many times. Thankful for grace. My wife is from the mountains of the southern Philippines and about as decent and lovely a person as you'll ever meet. I don't know how I got so lucky.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have only hosted so far, and it's been a wonderful experience. But with my wife, I'd like to be a good host and a good surfer, who people are happy to have met and who they can count on for friendship down the road anytime. Hotels are too usually too antiseptic and removed from local culture.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Just as a host so far! I tried in Singapore but it was bad timing and those folks are overwhelmed with requests sometimes.
