关于我

CURRENT MISSION

Explore London and the UK a bit more, and see a few more places around Europe.

ABOUT ME

I'm a 27-year old software engineer from Munich, currently working as a game developer in London. I live with my girlfriend, the only person that actually laughs at my jokes...
Like most Couchsurfers, I'm open-minded, curious and willing to absorb new cultures or learn new languages.

PHILOSOPHY

"It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see." - Thoreau
"If I have to make a decision, I always ask myself: 'What would make a better story?'" - Silla

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've hosted a bunch of people already and go on trips from time to time. I can sometimes be spotted at random couchsurfing meetups.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

While I was at university, my flatmate started hosting some people on couchsurfing and I helped him out, playing tour guide and the like. Soon after, I started hosting myself for a year or two, and went on a three-week couchsurfing trip to France.
After I moved abroad, I didn't get much of a chance to host because I was living in unpopular places. I hosted a few times once I moved to Helsinki, and haven't hosted since I moved to London (mostly because I'm still trying to figure out the city myself).

兴趣

I'm interested in different cultures, their languages and their history. When I travel, I mostly avoid the tourist attractions and instead try to experience what it's like to live in this city and what makes its people tick.

I've always had an interest in languages, but I never have the stamina to learn one to fluency. My current new love is Irish, which is a beautiful but not widely used language; but then, not all things in life have to useful to be enjoyable, do they?

An interest in history and lack of any other form of exercise lead me to pick up swordfighting a few months ago. It's harder than it looks, it's a good workout and gives me some nice adrenaline spikes when I'm in the ring. It has also brought me back to meditation from which I lapsed a while ago.

I've been a choir singer for about a decade now. I like music, and I like making music even more; I've never properly learnt how to play an instrument, but singing came more easily. It's a great way to meet people as well, music tends to bring together strangers.

音乐、电影和书籍

My music taste is all over the place. Metal and hard rock when I'm tired or need a boost and electronic when I'm working, exercising or as background noise. I go to a fair amount of Irish/Scottish traditional music because I have friends in that scene. And when the mood strikes me, I enjoy some nice acoustic guitar or dig up songs from my teenage years.

I'm a fan of scifi, so my movie and series tastes lie in that direction. My memory for movies is terrible, can't remember the last one I saw...
I also like slower-paced intense movies, most recent (and brilliant) example is "Joker" with Joaquin Pheonix.

As far as series go, I love "Firefly". Netflix has done a good job with scifi shows, I loved "Orphan Black", "Altered Carbon" "Sense8" and "Dark".

Books are awesome in general, but I particlularly enjoyed "The Malazan Book of the Fallen" by Steven Erikson and "Kingkiller Chronicle" by Patrick Rothfuss. I've recently discovered Brandon Sanderson and am devouring all his books right now.
When it comes to Scifi, I read most of what John Scalzi and Joe Haldemann wrote.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

- Sang in front of 2500 people (Lord of the Rings - Live)
- At 21, moved to Tallinn for a few months with only a backpack and a dream to start a game company

教,学,和分享

I have gathered a lot of seemingly useless information and trivia about history, language and other topics, all I need is an audience ;-)

Honestly, I'm not sure. I guess I can try to fix your PC? :-)

Um, my couch? Also, you can have whatever is in the fridge :-D

There is a lot to do around London. A lot of the main sights are in tour guides, I can offer to show you some places, pubs and cafes that aren't in the guides and that the locals prefer.
