About Me

CURRENT MISSION

"Human nature will not flourish, any more than a potato, if it be planted and replanted, for too long a series of generations, in the same worn out soil. My children ... shall strike their roots into unaccustomed earth." -- Nathanial Hawthorne

ABOUT ME

"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than exposure."

(read my "personal philosophy")

PHILOSOPHY

In college, my friend and I invented something called "gopher trails." We would get in my car, put a few dollars worth of gas in it, and start driving with no destination in mind. We'd get lost, have interesting conversations, and eventually wind up somewhere that we would mutually agree upon was our "destination": a place or experience we had never known about before until we got lost and found it. Then we would somehow find our way back under the darkness of night. I have taken this philosophy with me wherever I travel: Sometimes it is necessary to get completely lost in order to find what you were looking for.
