About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Go wherever I can, whenever I can

ABOUT ME

I realized not long ago that traveling may be the only thing I'm truly good at. There's something incredibly natural-feeling to me about getting on a plane/car/boat, arriving in a strange place, and meeting new people. It's all I know!

PHILOSOPHY

Relax. Expect nothing, and the world will always exceed your expectations.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surf, which I suppose might be obvious, but I also spread the word, telling as many people as possible about the wonderful folks to be met on CS, and trying to counter any negative stereotypes.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Most memorable: Sharing a mattress with four other people in an over-air-conditioned Singapore apartment, with only one thin sheet to cover us all...

Interests

Food, exploration, books, movies, ridiculous adventure

Music, Movies, and Books

Zola, Murakami, Jean-Pierre Melville, Burgess, Chatwin, Dengue Fever, UA, Borges, the Clash, Portishead, the Wire... You know, I put those favorites down a couple years ago, and they're still accurate. But I might also add Neko Case, Sean Hayes (the singer, not the actor), Colson Whitehead, Gary Shteyngart, Geoff Dyer, the BPA and Sporto Kantès to bring things up to date.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Surrounded by mountain goats in the Montana wilderness, just watching them inspect my camp and chew grass in the moonlight.

Teach, Learn, Share

When you're visiting someone in the summertime, bring a watermelon. Everyone loves them, their size impresses, and they're common to most cultures. (In some places, like Central Asia, a Hami melon works well, too.) Oh, and they taste great!

Countries I’ve Visited

Albania, Argentina, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lithuania, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Moldova, Montenegro, Morocco, Myanmar, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Uruguay, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

United States, Viet Nam
