About Me

https://m.facebook.com/M3guitars/

If it is the first thing you think of when you wake up, and the last thing you think of when you fall asleep, it's a good bet that it's an obsession. I am unapologetically obsessed with music and guitars.

That said , I've been socio-politically active for most of my adult life. I've worked for a company that raises funds for 30 or so progressive environmental and political groups for over 10 years. All through the Bush/Cheney/Ashcroft/Rovian dark-ages. It's actually shaped and informed my attitude as to what work is *for* too. So these 2 aspects built on each other. Weird how that happened.

Several years ago I started doing Vipassana meditation at a 10 day coarse up by Yosemite. No bells or whistles. No spinning prayer wheels. No chanting or visualizasions. No religion. As the Guatama said "vast emptiness and nothing sacred". Just the meditation technique. I've been back there 5 times and intend to go back every year for another 10 day sit. You live the life of a Buddhist monk. Vow of silence. Up at 4 in the morning. Meditation sessions all day. Discoarses in the evening. Veggie food in the morning and lunch, and just tea (once you're an old student) at noon. Very intense, and VERY BEAUTIFUL!

PHILOSOPHY

very liberal.
I think that maybe all the reasons we've come up with for mankind being here on the planet, in all the years we've been here, may be wrong. W3 aren't the acme of civilization yet. We haven't thought our best thought yet. There are whole cultures as yet unimagined.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surfed the country whenever I toured as a musician! And now when there are major guitar and Luther ie shows, I surf to *them*. Love it, it's SO much cooler than staying in hotels. I know guys who tour and all they ever see is the back of the venue and the hotel. We get to really SEE and get to know where we go.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I think I spent the bulk of my 20's couch surfing. Not exactly on purpose though. I don't think it was quite as cool then.

Interests

well... we love music. I'm Martin and I love just talking about pretty much whatever we see in front of us at the time. I build guitars.

We really like talking about everything from philosophy to politics as long as there is real conversation. You know, where we talk with each other, not at each other.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love Chris Whitley, and I'm on a Keb Mo kick right now. Sometimes I'll go for a month without listening to anything but classical, but we play and I write so sometimes I have to not listen to anything at all. I know, it's weird.

I read a lot of Sci Fi, but I like historical fiction as well. My favorite author now is Neal Stephenson

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've seen some beautiful wildlife - a stalking mountain lion once. I used to live up on Mt Baldy in the San Gabriels and there were bears all over the place!

Travel is amazing! One day I was standing in 11 inches of snow in Alaska, the next day I was standing on a beach in Santa Barbara, and the next day after that I was riding the subway in NYC. freaky!

Teach, Learn, Share

I build guitars.

we're a traveling band and some people might want to know what that's like.

i write songs, and some people might like to know about that.

I've also done some pretty serious vipassana meditation. I can't teach it, but I can tell people about it.
